The Role Responsibilities
Strategy
- The Industry Banker is responsible for supporting the implementation of the Metals & Mining business strategy, working closely with Executive Directors and MDs.
Business
The Industry Banker is responsible for originating and providing extensive Metals & Mining expertise on event-driven deals. The Industry Banker will bring coverage and product execution capabilities in order to focus on strategic deals (Corporate Finance and Capital Markets). The Industry Banker will work closely as a team with the Global and Regional Industry Heads, MDs, Executive Directors, Relationship Managers and product partners to deepen client relationships and drive revenue and returns growth.
- Position SCB’s Industry Group as a first port of call for SCB’s clients requiring investment banking services across M&A advisory, LBO advisory, private equity placements, acquisition financing, project finance, structured debt etc
- Support the delivery of new investment banking mandates to help achieve the M&M revenue budgets.
- Ensure mandates are properly and expediently executed to the highest standards.
- As appropriate, support or lead engagement with client, including deal economics, engagement letter and term sheet negotiations.
- As appropriate, support or lead deal execution
- Work closely with Relationship Managers / Industry Bankers to up-tier key client relationships and help propagate an advisory culture within the CCIB business.
- Work closely with key product partners (Global Credit Markets, Financial Markets) to cross-sell products
- Leverage key lending relationships to win advisory and acquisition financing mandates.
- May be required to carry delegated authority and responsibility of Regional Industry Head
Processes
Proactively manage the designated client portfolio to ensure:
- Close ties exist with key stakeholders e.g. Financial Markets, Transaction Banking, Corporate Finance Risk, Country CEOs, Service Delivery etc.
- Risk are appropriately identified and managed.
- The client portfolio is managed in compliance with the regulatory environment, keeping up to date with applicable changes and Group policies with ability to contribute to policy formulation.
- Key regulatory risks and concerns are raised into the governance framework throughout the CB team.
- All sales disciplines are adhered to in accordance with IC/CIB standards ie Account Planning, Call Reports, Deal Pipeline Management
People and Talent
- Lead by example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
- Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
- Encourage a performance driven culture.
Risk Management
- Provide appropriate guidance to the team to ensure portfolio standards are being met.
- Engage Risk and Legal & Compliance as appropriate to escalate items relating to Risk Management
Governance
- Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the Group’s arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls in the business and, if necessary, oversee changes in these areas
- Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework, in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role
- Responsible for delivering “effective governance”; capability to challenge fellow executives effectively; and willingness to work with any local regulators in an open and cooperative manner

Our Ideal Candidate
- Degree or post graduate qualified from a top-tier school
- 6-8 years of experience in an investment bank or similar with a track record in M&A Advisory, Structured Debt, Project Finance, Capital Markets, Financial Markets and/or Structured Trade transactions. A good portion of the investment banking experience should be in the Metals & Mining industry
- Good knowledge and understanding of the Metals & Mining industry, M&A Advisory and the M&M landscape
- Demonstrable track record of advising on Metals & Mining M&A and financing transactions
- Strong financial analysis, modelling and valuation, client interaction, deal negotiation and structuring skills
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance obligations

- Ability to excel in both team and self-directed settings
- Strong work ethics, detail orientation and a passion for excellence
- Effective communication skills both written and oral with internal and external clients
