Job description
Derby City Council is seeking applications to several independent positions on its boards and committees, working alongside elected councillors and senior Council officers.
If you are interested in good governance and upholding high standards in public life whilst being able to objectively assess a wide variety of information, then we would like to hear from you.
The Council current has vacancies to the following positions:
  • Independent Members of the Standards Committee
  • Independent Members of the Audit and Governance Committee
  • Members of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Councillors’ Allowances
The roles entail assisting the Council’s Monitoring Officer in the consideration of complaints against councillors; providing independent assurance on the Council’s risk management and internal control framework; and, making recommendations to the Council on the level of remuneration received by elected members.
Each role requires attendance at committee meetings up to six times per year at the Council House in Derby, whilst being available for regular consultation via either remote meetings or emails.
Applications are welcome from a variety of backgrounds, although experience and expertise in areas relevant to the roles of the respective committees will be considered favourably.
All roles include the payment of travel and subsistence expenses and Independent Members of the Standards and Audit and Governance Committees receive an allowance of £1,152 per annum.
Terms of office are four for four years running until May 2027, although may be extended by the agreement of the Council.
