Greater Opportunities is a non-profit organization that provides person-centered support services to adults with developmental disabilities. We are currently seeking a professional and compassionate individual for the position of Assistant Coordinator in our Independent Living Services Program. The ideal candidate will have experience delivering direct services in the community and the ability to assist in the administration of an entire program.
Under the direction of the Coordinator of the Independent Living Services (ILS) Program, the Assistant Coordinator for ILS has the following responsibilities:
Support the Cortez Semi Independent Living Services Program
Cortez program participants live in their own apartments own and operated by Greater Opportunities and attend evening group ILS classes four days per week, three hours per day for a two-year period. Most individuals also receive additional individual ILS instruction per their Individual Service Plan. The Assistant Coordinator has primary responsibility to:
- Implement ILS curricula from 4:00 to 7:00 pm for at least two of the four classes held Monday through Thursday
- Directly provide ILS training and support to Cortez program participants in their apartments
- Maintain the common areas of the property in a neat and clean manner both directly and through delegation to staff, participants, and outside help
- Provide direct assistance in finding housing in the participant's community of choice pending their graduation from the Cortez program
- Will be expected to maintain physical on-site presence once a week at the Apartment site.
Support the Independent Living Services (ILS) Program
ILS participants learn self-advocacy, how to make responsible and informed choices, and the functional skills necessary to enjoy an independent, community-integrated lifestyle. The Assistant Coordinator assists the Coordinator with daily oversight, training and coaching of staff in order to ensure high quality of direct service and acquisition of ILS competencies, including. He/she may work 1:1 with client's as needed.

Other Duties
- Maintain complete records
- Conduct intakes and assessments as needed
- Attend annual and semi-annual meetings with participants and their circles of support
- Schedule services and assign staff to participants
- Complete agency documentation including but not limited to program billing, trainings, review of staff case notes, and verification of hours worked on staff timecards
- Share in emergency pager/cell phone responsibilities
- Promote maximum program utilization through active participation and leadership in marketing and public relations activities
- Transport participants
- Preserve the health, safety, and well-being of program participants
- Assist participants with medical, vocational, social security, and family issues
- Provide direct moving services to participants, using company vehicles as assigned
- Connect participants with community resources
- Maintain positive relations with Families, Care Providers, and San Andreas Regional Center employees
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years’ experience working in a training capacity with people with developmental disabilities (or other diverse population)
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders
- Strong written communication skills
- Desktop publishing skills using internet, email, spreadsheets, databases
- Able to add, subtract, divide, multiply, use percentages and fractions
Physical Requirements
Standing: Must be able to stand for extended periods
Sitting: Must be able to sit regularly for extended periods
Lifting, pushing and pulling:Must be able to lift, push, and pull property maintenance
equipment, supplies, and household furnishings up to 50 pounds
Speech and Language:Must be able to speak and read English fluently
Vision:Vision correctable to DMV licensing standards
Hearing:Must be able to communicate effectively with consumers, staff and
business associates
Health Screening: Must complete a TB Test screening
Other Requirements
Transportation:Must possess reliable personal vehicle and proof of
insurance, current DMV license and good driving record
CPR and First Aid:Must possess or obtain CPR and First Aid certification
through in-service training
DOJ:Must pass DOJ background clearance
