Croydon is a diverse, dynamic and creative place and we are seeking an independent Chair for our Education Partnership to help challenge and progress our thinking and service provision.
As an independent Chair, you will drive our newly established Croydon Education Partnership forward, providing the overall strategic direction necessary to improve educational outcomes and opportunities for all children and young people in Croydon. You will be essential in ensuring that the Board develops, approves, implements and monitors a three-year strategy for education in Croydon, including measurable targets for improvement.
We are looking for someone who can provide independent leadership and strategic vision, ensuring that the Board has an independent, objective and authoritative identity.
As our independent Chair, you will have an excellent understanding of our vibrant and diverse borough and above all, a commitment to being an independent champion for our borough’s children and young people.
About You:
The suitable applicant will have the following:
- Educated to degree level in a relevant field or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Extensive relevant experience gained within public services, the education sector or similar.
- A sound grasp of key strategic developments and challenges in education with excellent knowledge of education policy and practice.
- Experience of chairing complex professional meetings at a senior level and ability to chair in an effective manner, utilising effective conflict resolution skills when necessary.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to communicate with a range of people at all levels, including the media.
- Ability to influence key stakeholders and decision makers in a multi-agency environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Croydon context.
Grade/Salary: Negotiable daily rate depending on knowledge and experience
Hours of work: Flexible – up to a maximum of 20 days per annum
Contract type: 2-year casual contract (subject to an annual review) with scope for extension
