Let’s set the scene…
The role of a service technician is beginning to change. Vehicles are now equipped with advanced and fascinating technology, so being able to diagnose, service and maintain vehicles now requires a new kind of technician.
Customer-centricity has become just as important as diagnosing and repairing vehicles. And our Inchcape technicians work together as team to carefully manage our customers expectations whilst we look after their cars.
We partner with our providers to deliver an exciting, informative and rewarding apprenticeship – and you’ll learn all the skills required to be a technician of the future.
What does a Light Vehicle Service Technician do?
You will embark on a 3-year journey with us which will prepare and train you to be a next generation, fully-fledged Light Vehicle Service Technician.
You will service and repair our light vehicles that weight up to 3.5 tonnes. Between us and your apprenticeship provider, you will be trained in all areas of vehicle mechanics and electronics. Your work will vary from air conditioning and security features to engine and exhaust systems, giving you a well-rounded insight into vehicle maintenance.
So, what does that actually mean on a day-to-day? Well, you can expect to have to following duties:
- Servicing our vehicles – you’ll be carrying out checks and maintenance in accordance with brand guidelines.
- Identifying, repairing and replacing components and parts that are faults.
- Liaising with our Service Advisors about required repairs or vehicle work.
- Maintaining repair and service records
- Learn and demonstrate work bay and surrounding area tidiness.
- To always consider the customer impact on any activity with the vehicle, demonstrating our customer-centric approach
- To satisfy the academic requirements of the apprenticeship – engage with our provider and ensure course progress.

When you start in September, we’ll be giving you a brand-new set of tools for you to use throughout your 3-year journey.
Upon qualifying, you’ll have to option to purchase them from us at a discounted price…but don’t worry about that until your third year!
