Job description
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Immunisation Nurse to join our ages 0-19 years / school-aged Immunisation Service.
This permanent vacancy is for five days per week, core hours 8am - 4pm, Monday to Friday.
SCFT's Immunisation Service vaccinates children in schools and clinics across West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton and Hove.
Although this post is based within the Brighton team our whole service approach requires joint working across the whole of Sussex.
Our innovative and dynamic Immunisation teams are dedicated to improving immunisation uptake and delivering the national evidence-based Schools’ Immunisation Programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy, yet friendly team of nurses, assistants and administrators.
The role encompasses responsibility for clinical delivery of vaccinations and patient safety, specialist advice on immunisation issues, and the opportunity to develop skills in both independent and team working.
We welcome applicants who can demonstrate a willingness to work flexibly and cooperatively with colleagues both within their own team and the wider multidisciplinary teams across the whole SCFT area. You will need to be motivated, conscientious and committed to supporting us to maintain high vaccination coverage across Sussex.
The team visits several schools across the county every day, so you would be likely to visit a different school each day during school term time and carry out catch-up clinics during the school holidays. We currently offer HPV and Teenage booster vaccinations in secondary schools and nasal spray flu vaccinations to eligible cohorts within schools. We also offer the neonatal BCG progamme and other immunisations, such as MMR in clinic.
Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust (SCFT) is the largest community healthcare provider in Sussex.
- Over 8,400 full time, part time and bank staff members
- Medical, nursing and therapeutic care provided to over 10,000 children and adults a day
- July 2018 Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating of 'Good' with 'Outstanding' features
- Flexible working patterns offered across all services
- Thriving BAME, Disability and Wellbeing, LGBT+ and Religion and Belief staff networks
- Accredited Level 3 Disability Confident Leader
The successful applicant will work in schools, clinics and family homes with children, young people and babies to deliver vaccinations in a safe and professional way. Engagement with hard to reach groups such as travelers and children who are looked after is another aspect of the service's remit and the Band 5 responsibilities will include supporting this work in the community. The ability to communicate well and remain calm under pressure is essential.
The role requires working core hours of 8am-4pm with flexibility at either end of the day for packing of vaccines and clinic cover, on a rota basis within the team. We also run Saturday clinics, which you would be required to cover once per term.
All team members support the whole of the SCFT Immunisation Service, so you must be a car owner/driver and be willing to travel to clinics and schools within Sussex.
