The British Library are seeking a Support Technician for the International Dunhuang Project (IDP), a large-scale international collaboration connecting partner institutions in Europe, Asia and the US with collections related to Dunhuang and other archaeological sites in China and Central Asia. All partners share the ethos of making the items under their custodianship freely available online on the same platform (www.idp.bl.uk).
Since 1994, the British Library has played a key role in the development of IDP, and this is an exciting opportunity to be part of this by contributing to the delivery of its major activities by providing essential technical support to the IDP technical environment.
You will work as part of the Technology Operations department monitoring performance and the timely delivery of support across the IDP application landscape.
You will also work closely with colleagues responsible for the IDP in the Asian and African collections department, liaising with the IDP international partners to coordinate any technical issues, and with third-party providers/consultants in relation to the IDP environments.
The ideal candidate will be driven and enthusiastic about joining the IDP programme, willing to learn new skills, and committed to follow best practice principles and corporate standards.
We work in a hybrid environment, averaging one day a week onsite, however, we let you decide what works best for you, e.g. 3 days onsite one week and the next 2 weeks working from home. We are very much delivery and outcomes focussed….
About you;
- A track record of solving problems
- Can demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders, with effective communication both orally and in writing, with colleagues, clients and customers
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Takes initiative and works adaptably and flexibly unsupervised to achieve own objectives
- Contributes to the collection of Technology operations metrics
- Works within Technology technical standards
- Is able to interact with other service providers and C&C representatives on a regular basis in order to report on services delivery, to discuss and respond to Customer feedback
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changes
