Service Technician

The Service Technician at Total Environmental Management, Inc. (TEM) will be performing maintenance, repairs, and startups of units and contribute to TEM’s exceptional customer service, while overseeing the install crew to ensure units are being installed correctly and all tasks at hand are being completed in a timely manner. Success in this role comes from being a self- motivated leader who is open minded and can proactively come up with creative ideas on how to troubleshoot units.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

Within the first 30-60 days and ongoing:

  • Within 1st week, completes TEM trainings, e.g.: electrical and safety trainings, watches video(s) and passes written test(s).
  • Learns TEM’s mission, core values, services, policies, and operational procedures.
  • Learns all TEM software including Paycom, Motive, GoFormz and Dropbox to help support all daily activities and tasks.
  • Shadows a Service Technician during onsite repairs and service calls, observing the TEM maintenance and repair process, customer interaction, and how to fill out paperwork, asking questions that shows eagerness to learn.
  • Becomes familiar with TEM’s equipment used for different installs and has a foundational understanding of what each one does.

3-6 months and ongoing:

  • Begins assisting a Service Technician on onsite unit maintenance, repairs, and startups diagnosing and fixing equipment that is not working, asking questions that show understanding.
  • Cleans out and restocks trucks with correct supplies and tools needed for unit servicing and repairs daily including filters, refrigerant, ducts and cords of varying lengths, extension cords, ladders, screw drivers, knit drivers, wire cutters, power and impact drills, and skill saws.
  • Knows how to properly install a spot cooler and how to handle customer interaction associated with the difficulties of venting condenser air.
  • Within 5 months, completes on site customer maintenance, repairs, and startups independently; ensuring units have been installed with electrical and water sides are hooked up properly, equipment is started up at job site, and field service tickets are filled out properly.
  • Reliably checks units in and out at job sites, completing equipment and trailer paperwork.
  • Competently ties up all sizes of duct work and cables to competently store and fit them onto shelves in the warehouse daily.
  • Completes and is OSHA 30 certified.

9-12 months and ongoing:

  • Is independent in the role and is a valued team member, showing good judgement when taking care of daily tasks by displaying an ability to “stand on one’s own” and proactively considers how to best support the team and customers.
  • Completes repairs on chillers, towers, air handlers and drives while still reading materials and asking questions as needed.
  • Takes the initiative to help teach and builds others up by answering their questions, comments, or concerns.
  • Actively seeks out training opportunities to work on more complex units and troubleshooting tactics that are unknown or unpracticed by shadowing Lead Service Technicians, doing independent research and asking questions.

EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

✓ 5+ years’ experience in a HVAC industry performing in the field work, conducting installations or service operations role strongly preferred
✓ Self-starter and hungry to lead initiatives in a fast-paced environment required
✓ Possess a valid CA Driver’s License and good driving history required
✓ Proven ability to be troubleshooting and problem solving with a strong sense of urgency, initiative and drive required
✓ Openness to learn something new every day required
✓ Displays the ability to work on a small team and independently required
✓ Ability to lift and/or operate tools, typically a minimum of 50lbs required
✓ Is able to pass a drug screen and physical and is acceptable to insurance required
✓ Demonstrated experience with technology/apps to perform job site work, including GoFormz, KeepTruckin, Dropbox or Paycom a plus

✓ Universal EPA certification or Refrigerant license a plus
✓ Prior experience troubleshooting technical systems and machinery a plus
✓ High school diploma or general education degree (GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience)
