Main Purpose
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of HVAC Mechanics at the 48th Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom.
This is a developmental position. You will be provided job progression training to reach the targeted grade of S-5301-06.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve in a developmental capacity as an HVAC Mechanic Apprentice to assist higher level HVAC Mechanics and learn to install, maintain, and repair and modify large/complex heating boilers, and single and multiple fueled power boilers and support equipment including mechanical system controls and distribution lines and to install, repair, and modify large/complex systems that provide for a variety of air conditioning functions such as heating, cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, cleaning, filtering, and circulating with the ultimate goal of upgrade to W-5301-06 upon completion of training plan.
Under close supervision, you will learn to troubleshoot heating boilers, heating systems, and fuel power boilers with complex problems as a means of developing trade skills and gaining knowledge of the trade.

Knowledge and Experience Required - Applicants must demonstrate the following:
1. Ability to follow directions and work closely with others.
2. Ability to follow safety regulations and procedures.
3. Ability to learn technical practices in order to select tools and carry out the electrical and mechanical work assigned.
4. Ability to learn to use and maintain hand tools such as pliers, wirecutters, strippers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders.
5. Ability to learn to read and use electrical and mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams.
6. Ability to learn to requisition, receive, and store tools, equipment, and supplies.
7. Ability to learn to use and maintain precision measuring devices, and a variety of test equipment including special tools such as acetylene torch, ammeters, refrigeration gauges, electronic leak detectors, control devices, vacuum pump, hydraulic press, and micrometers.
8. Ability to learn to use shop mathematics to compute fuel consumption rates, heat generating units, and air-to-fuel ratios and conversions.

- Will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules,
- and regulations.
- Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
- May be assigned other duties that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the employee.
- May be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft in the performance of official duties or attend necessary
- training. Position may be coded as mission essential.
- A 6 month probationary period will be required.
- Overtime may be required.
- May be required to travel overnight to US or other countries in the performance of official duties or attend necessary
- train.
Other significant facts pertaining to this position are:
1. Shift work may be required.
2. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
3. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid UK Category B driver’s license is required for the position.
4. May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective clothing and gear on these occasions.
5. Required to maintain appropriate certifications in accordance with US and UK industry standards.
6. Employee is required to obtain, at employer expense, an NVQ Level III HVAC certified fitter or equivalent qualification. Please note: Training plans will be established and monitored by the supervisor and will specify the length of time the employee has to obtain certification. Failure to complete the required certification within the time period due to employee negligence will result in separation from the position. If failure to obtain certifications is due to circumstances outside the employee’s control, management will work with the employee to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable timeframe.
