#GrowWhatMatters
The Human Health Risk Assessment (HHRA) and Residues teams (subgroups of the Human Safety function) are seeking an intern to support the development of:
- a database for foliar residues of pesticide products in various crops, and perform statistical analysis based on different parameters
- a residue database made up of publicly available residue data to improve residue estimation and benchmarking purposes.
Foliar residues (total residues in/on crops and dislodgeable residues from leaf surfaces) are a critical parameter in the prediction of exposure to consumers and workers whose contact with plant protection products is mainly through dried residues on crops and food commodities. These residues are measured in field studies and used in human health risk assessment.
Responsibilities – What You’ll Do
The project will involve (HHRA):
- Data mining from foliar residue field studies and publicly available residue data
- Estimation of decline kinetics from residue decline and dislodgable foliar residue decline studies and consequent analysis.
- Collation and statistical analysis of various study parameters to enable the development of strategies and approaches for read-across of residue data to multiple crops. The ability to bridge foliar residue data across crops and products is critical in providing more realistic human health risk assessments.
- Analyzing relationship between total residues and dislodgeable foliar residues (DFR)
The project will involve (Residue):
- Data mining from publicly available third-party reports covering crop and animal residue data points that impact human health risk assessment outcomes.
- Help to generate an easily accessible database of information for benchmarking purposes as well as meta-analysis of trending topics such as proportionality and impact of seasonality/zoning on residue values.
- Improve accuracy of pre-development stage compound risk assessment by enabling more accurate residue prediction in animal commodities and the use of surrogate compounds for risk assessment purposes in general.
Demonstrate independent and creative thinking by developing a user-friendly database, interpreting data, identifying potential relationship/correlations and drawing sound scientific conclusions
Provide project updates throughout the internship to both the HHRA and Residues groups within Human Safety.
Work in a safe manner and embody Corteva’s safety culture.
Location: Milton Park, UK
