The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and organised Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Apprentice to provide valuable support in assisting the HSE Business partner & the wider HSE team in delivering the business legal and compliance requirements. The HSE Apprentice will work work in partnership with all stakeholders (internal and external) to provide support to help drive the business risk strategy and legal compliance agenda, in addition to influencing all colleagues to improve the HS&E culture across the organisation. Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support the HSE Business Partner and the wider HSE team in delivering plans and demonstrating proactive and timely delivery of tasks.
- Be ready and prepared to undertake internal and external training, and formal HSE qualifications from Certificate to Diploma level, including at work study time and self-driven to qualify through some own time studying.
- Assist in the completion of ad-hoc reviews and projects, under guidance from the HSE Business Partner. Tasks may vary dependent on business need, providing a variety of scope and experience to the job holder.
- Attend relevant HSE meetings and engage with non-HSE colleagues to ensure messages understood and supported in their delivery.
- Travel to Derby, Toyota Derby, and Leeds sites, and occasionally other sites.
Salary
£25,000 - £28,000 DOE for the first year of apprenticeship.
Working Hours
40 hrs p/w, Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm. 1 day remote p/w.
Training Provided
The HSE Technician will be able to work in organisations of varying size and industry; the role could be based in one location or may involve travel across a range of contracts. The role will be partly office based and partly at the work front providing advice to others on how to work without harming themselves or others. The Technician will work with the management and delivery team of the organisation to advise on the statutory health, safety and environmental requirements as they affect the company’s operations. They will assist the management team in ensuring that the legal and company HSE requirements are implemented. The successful apprentice will enrol with an external training partner, receiving a blended method of learning which includes remote meetings, workshops, online resources, and internal training to support them to achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 Health, Safety and Environment Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
Required Skills & Experience
- Good level of GCSE’s, NVQ’s or above
- Practical experience in commercial business environments
- Any prior Health & Safety knowledge desirable but not essential
- A basic understanding of business processes and systems is required, preferably from some degree of basic experience gained within a corporate enterprise
- Experience in working in commercial business in practical as well as administrative areas
- Good planning, organisational, and problem-solving skills, to ensure the timely delivery of key tasks and outcomes
- Be able to demonstrate robust judgement, decision making and creative problem-solving ability to drive positive outcomes
- Be a resilient and highly motivated self-starter who relishes a challenge
- Experience in Microsoft tools such as excel, word and PowerPoint
- Full UK Driving Licence required
