The Role:
We are recruiting for a proactive and driven individual to provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to hourly, salaried and management personnel to ensure employee health and the environment are protected. Conduct and supervise activities that ensure compliance with governmental regulations and corporate policies. To undertake Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) activities across the company’s facility in Sandiacre and Sheffield.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists operations management in understanding related EHS requirements and their impact on operations.
- Maintain communications with the facilities Leadership Teams
- Manage EHS systems to maintain accreditation to both ISO45001 and ISO14001 standards. Also, to contribute to the development of an EHS management system
- Conduct internal EHS audits and assist in preparation for external audits and visits
- Identifies common safety/health/environmental hazards inherent in the organisations operations and works with Head of EHS or corporate EHS to establish guidelines for protection from those hazards.
- Evaluates the impact of impending regulations and communicates these issues to appropriate facility personnel.
- Prepares or reviews EHS training materials for the facility under their scope and/or Performs training that has already been developed and recommends further training requires, based on known hazards and risks within the business.
- Provide annual training to employees on a range of EHS topics
- Conduct new hire orientation with all new starters
- Assists management in addressing and correcting Compliance Audit findings.
- Monitor, track, and follow up on Safety Improvement cards that are submitted at the Sheffield Facilities
- Performs or manages incident investigations where required and ensure all documentation is filled out correctly
- Utilises and modifies the corporations “best management practice” programs and plans to fit the needs of the facility.
- Carry out frequent walks of facilities shop floors engaging with employees to improve the safety culture
- Investigates and establishes standards for protective equipment.
- Performs self-assessments of safety/health/environmental programs for compliance with company standards, government regulations, and adequacy relative to local conditions.
- Generating and/or reviewing of reports for environmental and safety agencies.
- Responsible for the management and governance of the site’s Legionella management systems including the preparation of all documentation, maintenance of records and submissions to the relevant enforcement agencies.
- Management and governance of the sites waste management systems including the preparation of all documentation, maintenance of records and submissions to the relevant enforcement agencies.
- Management and governance of the site noise control plans.
- Management of the site energy conservation plans.
- Manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology and regulatory changes.
- Provide support and advice to facility departments in the review and update of COSHH, PUWER and Risk Assessments, to ensure their suitability and sufficiency
- Applies standard techniques, involving only minor innovations of methodology, to perform targeted assignments.
- Conducts monthly EHS committee meetings
- Develops/Compiles the Monthly Safety report
- Assists and Deputises for the Head of EHS in their absence and assists in the development of the EHS strategy planning
- Monitors the compliance of the Asbestos Management Register and Risk Plan where applicable
- To conduct and maintain the SafeTrack and EHS Walk systems
- To perform other tasks in keeping in line with the post as required by the Head of EHS
Skills and Experience:
- Breadth of knowledge and experience including EHS regulations, programs and policies
- NEBOSH general certificate with at least 3 years’ experience. A technical degree or NEBOSH diploma is highly desired.
- A strong understanding of EHS regulations and corporate standards is essential.
- Stakeholder management skills with an ability to influence people at all levels – shop floor to upper management.
- Ability to travel across sites as required
