Our HR team is looking for an HRIS Analyst to help manage the continuing growth and evolving HR technology platform. This role will focus on maintaining and actively supporting ongoing improvements to our Workday platform while ensuring the use of best practices across the business areas.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Partnering with key stakeholders to understand their business requirements and how the system can best support these.
  • Being proactive in understanding system functionality and future roadmaps to ensure we are optimising our use of Workday.
  • Supporting, analysing, troubleshooting, and resolving Workday issues
  • Working closely with our Data and IT teams to develop and maintain integrations into downstream business solutions
  • Delivering and supporting optimisation projects and enhancements
  • Documenting technical specifications and mapping of impact across the business
  • Escalation for complex queries relating to Workday business processes to ensure effective system service delivery.
    Working closely with the HR, Payroll and Expenses teams to ensure a seamless user experience
  • Training and upskilling key stakeholders in the use of Workday
  • Analysing system performance and suggest improvements.
  • Manage the review, impact analysis and implementation of the bi-annual Workday release cycle
  • Deliver Products, Tools, and Documentation, ensuring the delivery of change is made against a fully auditable process
  • Maintaining the security for the system including; testing, assurance, data privacy and best practices.

Person specification

Essential criteria:

  • 4+ years Workday Configuration experience which must include experience of an end to end Workday deployment
  • Workday Pro or equivalent Workday training (8+ Workday certified courses which must include HCM Fundamentals, Report Writer, Calculated Fields, Advance Business Process Fundamentals, Advanced Configurable Security, Integration System Fundamentals, Integrations Security)
  • Functional experience in HCM, advanced reporting, security, integrations plus one of the following areas: performance management, talent management, recruitment, absence, time tracking
  • Expertise in HR data governance and best practice
  • Knowledge of, and comfort with, the complexities of integrating HR systems and processes with wider business administration activities
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Ability to prioritise workloads
  • Process and detail driven to identify the impact of changes.
  • An excellent communicator – experience in gathering end to end business requirements and translating these into system configuration changes.
  • Ability to influence key stakeholders to deliver best practice solutions, providing constructive challenge where required
  • Significant experience of change management and major project implementation. Ability to evidence how successful change management ensured the successful adoption of new functionality.

Desirable criteria:


  • Formal certification/training in Workday methodologies and practices
  • Additional experience in WD Studio

Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie break situation to make an informed decision.

Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DfE, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.

Terms and conditions of candidates transferring from ALBs and NDPBs

Bodies that are not accredited by the Civil Service Commission and are not able to advertise at Across Government on Civil Service jobs will be treated as external new starters and will come into DfE on modernised terms and conditions with a salary at the band minimum.

Bodies that are accredited by the Civil Service Commission but do not have civil service status will be offered modernised terms and will not have continuous service recognised for leave or sickness benefits. Salaries should be offered at band minimum, but there is some flexibility where this would cause a detriment to the individual.

Bodies that are accredited by the Civil Service Commission and do have Civil Service status will be treated as OGD transfers. Staff appointed on lateral transfer will move on to pre-modernised DfE terms (unless they were on modernised terms in their previous organisation). Staff appointed on promotion will move on to modernised DfE terms. Staff will transfer over on their existing salary (on lateral transfer) and any pay above the DfE pay band maximum will be paid as a mark time allowance. Staff moving on promotion will have their salaries calculated using the principles set out in the attached OGD transfer supplementary information.
