Summary

The Charlotte Fire Department Human Resources Division is seeking a Sr. Human Resources Specialist to serve in a cross-functional position to provide support and ownership of the CFD, Promotional Process, FMLA/PPL, Payroll, Recruitment/Onboarding, Performance Review and Development and HR Administrative functions. The primary responsibility of the Sr. Human Resources Specialist is to ensure that the city of Charlotte and CFD attracts, hires and retains the best employees. The primary focus for this position is to perform and assist with annual promotional processes within the CFD while working collaboratively with the CFD HR Manager and HR staff on broad strategies and analysis to support and achieve departmental recruitment, promotional process and performance goals. This position requires a strong customer service orientation with a proactive mindset, attention to detail and optimal time management skills that allow strong performance in a fast-paced environment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with annual promotional process and onboarding of new recruits.
  • Assist with records requests, employment verifications, performance reviews, orientation, and on-boarding new hires.
  • Assist with payroll duties as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain weekly and monthly reports.
  • Process and update performance reviews.
  • Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
  • Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical conditions necessary for sitting, standing, climbing, or walking for extended periods of time

  • Adequate vision, hearing, and speech required.

Sensory Requirements:
  • Concentrated and attentive use of one or more senses (visual, audio, and other sensory modalities) for proof reading, data entry, tabulating data.
  • Ability to operate in an environment with frequent interruptions from people and or noises, which in return could result in some level of stress, fatigue, or strain.
  • Comprehensive of written information in work related documents
  • Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions; moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as officers, community members, victims, etc.); and frequent exposure to computer screens, files, and phones. Preferred Qualification

High School Graduate Diploma or GED and five (5) plus years human resources, payroll or related work experience. Associates Degree in human resources or related course work, or related field with three (3) years or more related experience.

Minimum Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent with five (5) years of related experience or associate degree.

Conditions of Employment
