Job Title: HR Officer (Temporary for 6 months)

Main Function of Job:

Reporting to the HR Business Partner and partnering closely with HR colleagues, Campus Deans and management teams, you will manage your own caseload of operational work along with the opportunity to become involved in project-related activity. Working with the HR Business Partner, this role is supporting Leeds and Manchester campuses, working as part of a wider HR team who are based across the UK. This is a challenging but highly rewarding role for an HR professional who has the ability to successfully operate in a busy collegiate, environment. As a generalist you will advise, guide and support all staff and managers across the UK when required, so an element of travelling will be required.

Specifically, the role includes:

  • Working at an operational level with multiple stakeholders, delivering an HR service in line with the needs and priorities of the University of Law.
  • Deliver effective HR practices and people solutions aligned to business objectives across the campuses.
  • With the support of the HR Business Partner, deal with complex or sensitive day to day people management issues.
  • To support the implementation and delivery of key HR initiatives as the interface between professional HR and the business
  • Advise, guide and support all staff and managers in the agreed campuses and other campuses in the UK when required, referring more complex cases to the HR Business

Partner.

Specific Responsibilities:

Recruitment & Selection

  • Liaise with hiring managers, advising and supporting appropriately on the need for resource.
  • Identify potential resourcing solutions including external recruitment, liaising with recruitment agencies and internal recruitment.
  • Supporting the recruitment authorisation process.
  • Sourcing/campaigns/PSL
  • Oversee and advise on interviews when required.
  • Liaise with HR Administration team regarding new starter documents and processes.
  • Induction and on-boarding.

Employee Relations

  • Where appropriate, act as the first line of contact in Human Resources for any employee relations issues involving employees, usually between entry level and Executive Manager.
  • Escalate any sensitive employee relations issues that arise, as appropriate, to the HR

Business Partner

  • Support, develop and coach people managers to manage employee relations issues using

University of Law policies, procedures and best practice, ideally resolving issues where possible informally

  • Build and maintain relationships with local Union representatives
  • Advise on occupational health issues, seeking specialist advice as appropriate.

Training/Performance Development Review

  • Capture learning and development trends and needs in order that appropriate inventions can be provided.
  • Work with the HR Business Partner to source relevant training courses as required.

Developing Others

  • In conjunction with the HR Business Partner support, develop and coach local people managers in relation to their approach and consideration of people issues, ensuring that they understand the impact of these on the individual and the business.

Organisation Development

  • In conjunction with the HR Business Partner, support the Senior HR Leaders with any

Campus/functional specific change programmes ensuring that they provide a value adding service in all change management programmes.

Reward & Remuneration

  • With appropriate guidance, support the salary review process at relevant organisational levels, ensuring people managers understand the salary review process guidelines.

  • Support the HR function in ensuring the salary review across Campuses/Functions is complete on time/to budget and accurately reflects consistency across Campuses.

Projects/Initiatives & Strategy

  • Support HR colleagues in the implementation of the strategic HR Plan, projects and initiatives at the University of Law to positively add value to both our business and employees.
  • Support HR colleagues and key stakeholders within Campus/Function to ensure that all

HR projects and initiatives are appropriately communicated and implemented on a local basis.

  • Support and partner HR colleagues in the implementation of HR Projects and initiatives where appropriate.

Administration, Systems & Records

  • Promote and embed the use of HR systems policies and processes, challenging appropriately and escalating to the HR Business Partner as necessary.
  • Manage exit processes for staff, carrying out exit interviews where required
  • Advise managers on use of services of non-employees e.g. Consultants, Contractors,

Temporary Workers, Visiting Tutors etc.

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the job holder may be required to perform other duties as assigned by members of the HR / Campus Management Teams from time to time.
