The Department:
The Faculty of Mathematics comprises two closely-linked departments; the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) and the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics (DPMMS). Together, the Departments have 97 academic staff, >125 contract research staff and 87 Professional Services staff.
The Role:
You will lead a small, busy team of HR Administrators who provide full support for all HR functions in both Departments. You will be responsible for providing accurate and timely advice and guidance to our staff on HR related issues across the whole employee lifecycle. In this challenging and exciting role, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with senior members of the Department to develop, implement and maintain the Department's HR strategy. We will look to you to promote best practice in line with the University's policies and procedures and employment law, supporting areas such as recruitment, probation, staff review and development, capability and sickness absence processes.
About you:
You will join us with experience of managing complex and sensitive personal issues; ideally gained within a Higher Education context. As an excellent communicator, with strong organisational and problem-solving skills, you will be proactive in your approach with the ability to use your initiative to reach desired outcomes. Key to your success in this role will be your ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues at all levels.
You will be educated to degree level standard or equivalent, have experience of maintaining office systems and office procedures and possess good IT skills. A keen attention to detail and confidence and tact in dealing with people at all levels are essential, as is the ability to deliver a high level of customer service. The ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment is highly desirable.
