A challenging and exciting HR Manager opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced, and qualified HR professional at Queen Margaret’s School; situated in glorious parkland just six miles south of of York, Queen Margaret’s School is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18, which was established in 1901.
Many people contribute to the ongoing success of Queen Margaret’s, with over 150 teaching and support staff, the majority who live within 30-45 minutes of the school including York, Hull, Leeds, and Harrogate, and 230 pupils all playing a role in making it what it is today.
They now seek to appoint an experienced HR Manager to develop and provide outstanding HR provision and maintain the high standards of the school.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all HR processes and procedures throughout the school and provide generalist HR advice and support to a diverse employee population.
Additionally, you will ensure that the school is fully compliant with Safer Recruitment and Regulation matters, supported by the Compliance Manager, as well as having an overview of all employee relations and provide advice on any employment regulation updates, HR processes or staffing. The role will report to the Bursar, support a friendly Senior Leadership Team (SLT), and manages a HR Assistant.
The role of Human Resources Manager provides an exciting opportunity to develop your HR career within the education sector. The ideal candidate will be part CIPD qualified (ideally Level 5 or happy to work towards) with a strong work ethic and able to cope in a fast-paced school environment, taking frequently changing priorities in your stride whilst maintaining a sense of humour. Commercially astute, and an experienced HR Generalist, you will have extensive experience gained delivering an efficient and effective HR service in an educational setting ideally. You must have demonstrable experience of managing a significant range of HR issues, including grievance and disciplinary matters. Additionally, the successful candidate will have experience of autonomous working, and an understanding and application of employment law. You will be responsible for managing a HR Assistant, and so previous team management experience would be highly advantageous, as would knowledge of child protection / safeguarding, motivation to work with children and young people, and an ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships at all levels with both employees and pupils.
This is a newly created role, following the retirement of the Director of Compliance and Administration and a restructuring of his current responsibilities. There is strong support from the school and Governors for the development of the HR function. This will be a varied role, reporting to the Bursar and supporting a friendly Senior Leadership Team (SLT)

The role is part-time - 5 hours a day / 25 hours a week during term time (41 weeks a year including 2-3 weeks when the school is not in session). Please note, therefore, that the salary advertised will be fractional to reflect the hours worked and weeks per year after holiday allowance.
