Job Description:
In this strategic role, you’ll create and deliver effective people plans through building strong partnerships with our Executive Committee and Senior Leadership Team. Working as part of the People Business Partnering team, you’ll partner with a designated business area and/or focus on change projects.
Main Responsibilities
You will work closely with a number of business areas and help to implement the business strategy from a people perspective, helping the business to create a culture and people approach which will support this.
You will drive the people strategy for areas of the business whilst influencing the business wide people strategy alongside teams of specialists from our People Function (such as experts in talent, culture, L&D), and operational support teams (who deal with the day-to-day issues of things like absence, employee relations and policy).
In summary you will contribute to the achievement of the Society’s Corporate Plan by delivering great people approaches.
Key activities include:
- Meeting key stakeholders to discuss people challenges
- Providing guidance on people practices such as reorganisation and succession planning
- Bringing people expertise and developing solutions to help areas of the business to deliver its strategy
- Bringing insight into the people partner community, finding opportunities to collaborate as well as creating bespoke interventions
- Influencing and building relationships with people around the business
- Acting as a local point of people expertise for specialist teams that are implementing new people approaches
- Questioning and challenging others to get to the root of people and business issues
- Coaching and providing feedback to key stakeholders to help improve business efficiency.
Ideal Candidate
To be successful, you must develop meaningful relationships with key people across areas of the business and the wider organisation and skills in influencing are essential.
You will also need to be able to use data, metrics and evidence to inform and drive decision making and change across a number of business areas.
Key competencies for the role are:
- Ability to build relationships and influence at a senior level
- Experience of managing strategic HR projects
- Understanding of people practices, a ‘generalist’ background with or without particular specialist interest and experience
- Appreciation of external trends across different professions to ’bring the outside in’
- Experience of building a people strategy
- Understanding of resource/budgetary/headcount management
