HR Business Advisor -
We are looking for 2 roles , permenent full time, and a Maternity cover for up to 12 months, hybrid with a mix of on part on site over multiple sites South West, and some home based days weekly.
Job purpose/business benefit of role
The HR Business Advisor is the first point of contact for tactical delivery within their assigned business team/area (which may include working across other sites/teams as directed by the Senior HRBP).
Works with key managers/stakeholders/HRSS to support the delivery of the local People Plans.
Provides a proactive generalist HR service to successfully deliver people and business objectives, working with the wider People & Sustainability team.
Accountabilities – may include but not limited to.
To work closely with the Senior HR Business Partner to ensure that the People plan is effectively delivered within area of responsibility.
To undertake focused activity as directed by the Senior HR Business Partner in support of business improvement e.g. sickness absence reduction, line manager capability, ER case work.
To provide advice to Managers/Supervisors in respect of dispute resolution and employee relations, which includes disciplinary and grievance handling, note taking at complex hearings, and management of ET processes as required.
To provide advice and administrative support to Managers as directed by the Senior HR Business Partner during organisational change providing professional advice on resource, communication, employment law and policy whilst ensuring fair and consistent practice.
Engage with employee representatives and Trade Union Regional /local officials regarding local people issues.
To monitor adherence to the attendance management standard and associated processes, escalating complex cases to the Senior HR Business Partner and advising line managers/supervisors in respect of attendance management, fully utilising the Occupational Health Supplier to support the wellbeing of employees.
Support and deliver engagement and learning & development activities, using relevant tools in line with the People Plan.
To co-ordinate and administer recruitment campaigns for vacancies up to department / depot management level i.e. creation of internal adverts, liaison with recruitment agencies and advertising companies, setting up interviews, communication both verbal and written to candidates.
To work closely with HRSS to ensure the accurate and timely completion of associated HR administration.
Working with the Senior HR Business Partner to effectively use the suite of people metric reports available undertaking regular analysis including the creation of corrective action in support of a reduction in operating costs.
Ensure compliance with general policies and procedures within the business and coach managers/supervisors to use the Process Library.
Health and safety accountabilities:
- Comply with the Company Health & Safety Policy.
- Support the BS OHSAS 18001:2007 accreditation process.
- Comply with all verbal and written instructions in matters pertaining to Health & Safety.
- Attend Health & Safety training courses as per instructions from line managers.

Influence managers/supervisors to change ways of working and adopt best practice/follow Company standards
Jobholder requirements (Knowledge, skills and key behaviours)
- Part/Grad CIPD (or equivalent) or with post qualification generalist experience.
- Sound knowledge and practical application of current UK employment law procedures and processes.
- Strong organisational capability, able to meet deadlines and manage large volumes of work.
- Developed Interpersonal skills and able to demonstrate strong personal credibility to persuade and influence site/dept management on HR related activity.
- A customer driven, collaborative and hands-on approach able to identify pragmatic, business focused solutions to problems, ability to see the bigger picture and think through the wider implications of actions.
- Flexible, enthusiastic and positive approach.
- Efficient and effective user of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills - able to produce spreadsheets and presentations.
- Experience of HR database systems and reporting functions and ability to review statistical data and interpret to provide management information.
- Able to cope under pressure and prioritise demands.
- Able to work outside of core hours when required.
- Full current driving license and ability to travel for work purposes.
- Flexible and willing to travel extensively across the UK, on occasions at short-notice.
- Ability to deliver presentations and training courses.
- Experience of working with a dispersed customer base.
- Full knowledge of HR processes and their application.
