The Prince George's County Government Department of Family Services is seeking qualified applicants to fill a Human Resources Assistant (Human Resources Assistant III) position, grade G-17 within its Management Services Division
About the Position:
This is a senior/lead performance level professional position within the Human Resources office. The incumbent in this position assists the human resources analyst with all personnel functions within the Department, performs extensive processing of confidential information, and serves as a team member to the Management Services Division. Employees in this class perform support tasks in a typical human resources functional area such as recruitment and selection, classification, records and benefits administration, training, employee relations or other human resources program areas. Work in this class is responsible for the routine day-to-day human resources operations by communicating and responding to non-technical human resources inquiries from employees and various outside entities in person, over the phone or via electronic communication.
What You'll Do:
- Assists the Human Resources Analyst in managing the day-to-day operations and work assignments of the office.
- Coordinates and manages timecard review/approval process.
- Provides efficient, accurate, and professional customer service, including but not limited to answering and recording telephone inquiries and/or complaints, addressing email inquiries, greeting, and assisting Management Services visitors, and opening and/or distributing mail as needed.
- Prepares and process all personnel actions. Ensures deadlines are met and forwards appropriate documents to the Office of Human Resources Management.
- Employs Human Resource Information System (HRIS) to process all personnel actions utilizing automated Personnel/Payroll Records.
- Analyzes and calculates pay adjustments for salary increases/decreases for merits, promotions, demotions.
- Coordinates and assists the Office of Finance with retroactive pay adjustments for processing.
- Prepares personnel related correspondence for the signature of senior leadership.
- Telestaff Information Management.
- Serves and assistants with preparing and/or purging outdated files for storage and destruction.
- Trains and documents processes.
- Researches and analyzes data and compiles for various statistical HR reports.
- Assists in the development, reviewing, updating of Past Performance Appraisals and Position Descriptions for accuracy and timely submissions to the Office of Human Resources Management.
- Coordinates various aspects of departmental personnel programs.
What You'll Need:
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources/Personnel Management, Organizational Development, Business/Public Administration, Psychology, or closely related field.
- Plus, one (1) year of experience providing technical human resources support in the areas of recruitment, classification and compensation, benefits administration, employee relations or pensions and investments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., occasionally move boxes, supplies, equipment, standing and bending frequently.
- Must be able to type at least 45 wpm and have knowledge of Adobe, Microsoft suite.
- Must be able to communicate and relate positively with people.
- Familiar with automated records and information storage and retrieval systems.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Must complete a thorough background investigation. May be required to work occasionally on some evenings and weekends.
DURATION OF ELIGIBILITY: Applicants will be selected from a temporary register of eligible candidates, which will become effective approximately four (4) weeks after the closing date. Once a selection has been made, the register will expire.
