Job description

The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) seeks a Human Resources Assistant to assist with onboarding and offboarding employees, and provide administrative support for the day-to-day operations of the HRU. This position will report to the Chief Diversity and People Officer and it is an ideal role for a new HR professional.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help warmly welcome new employees by owning “New Hire” communications, notices and documents.
  • Process internal Job Action Forms such new hires, status changes/promotions, salary changes, and liaison with IT.
  • Maintain accurate records including employee onboarding documents, offboarding documents, training acknowledgements, etc.
  • Send monthly invoices to the Finance Unit for processing.
  • Assist with coordinating trainings, maintaining rosters, and confirming attendance.
  • Research new HR policies, procedures and best practices.
  • Complete requests for employment verification.
  • Assist with additional projects and other duties as assigned by CDPO.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR Management, Business Administration, Political Science or a related field is preferred. With a college degree, at least one year of related work or internship experience is required.
  • In lieu of bachelor’s degree, at least 3 years’ of professional work experience in HR is required.
  • Sense of humor and little to no ego. We are a service-oriented department and organization.
  • Curiosity.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Must be detailed-oriented, self-motivated and very organized.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Outlook and Word. If you like mail merge, you’ll love this role!
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with all levels of employees and management.
