Freedom Preparatory Academy Charter Schools (www.freedomprep.org) is a PK-12 charter school in Memphis, TN. Our mission is to prepare all students in grades K-12 to excel in college and in life. Freedom Preparatory Academy opened in August of 2009 with a class of 96 6th graders. We now serve over 2300 students in grades PreK-12. Our students have exceeded local and state averages in math and local averages in English language arts on the state exam.
We have three core beliefs that drive our mission: Every child deserves the right to a high-quality public education, a foundation in character development is essential, and direct exposure to an array of opportunities and experiences provides each child with the self-confidence and social knowledge to compete globally. POSITION OVERVIEW
Freedom Prep seeks a self-motivated Human Resources Assistant who is fueled by our mission to prepare all students in grades K-12 to excel in college and in life. S/he will perform administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization’s human resources department. Responsibilities of the Human Resources Assistant will include, but are not limited to.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides general front desk coverage including greeting guests and employees, answering and directing incoming calls, maintaining supplies and reception area appearance as well as mail distribution.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
- Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
- Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
- Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
- Provides clerical support to the HR department.
- May assist with payroll functions including processing, answering employee questions, fixing processing errors, and distributing checks.
- Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors, which may include health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
- Conducts or assists with new hire orientation.
- Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
- Manage HR email daily
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A commitment to Freedom Prep and its values, an understanding of Freedom Prep’s mission, and unwavering commitment to fulfill it
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
- Knowledge of the K-12 education environment and experience in an educational setting a plus
- 1-2+ years’ experience working in human resources strongly preferred
- Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills with the ability to identify, prioritize, organize tasks in order to efficiently and effectively accomplish assigned and self-generated tasks
- Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work
- Effective communication skills with the ability to connect with people from a variety of different backgrounds
