Caerphilly Housing Support Worker
Reports to: Housing Department Manager
Direct Reports: N/A
Base: Crumlin office and community working
Hours: 37
Hourly rate: SCP11 (£10.00 per hour)
The purpose of this role is to provide high quality, housing-related floating support to people aged 50+ across Caerphilly, and in particular, those adults at risk or in crisis situations.
You will have a clear understanding of older people’s housing needs, supporting them to maintain their tenancies and promoting resilience. Support will be person centred, focussing on setting realistic goals and ensuring appropriate outcomes
You will manage your work time and caseload effectively, have a passion for supporting older people and be flexible in order to meet service needs. The ability to drive and have access to of your own vehicle for work purposes is essential to your role. You will also undergo an enhanced DBS check.
Main duties and responsibilities
- To provide a quality housing service to older people and have a clear understanding of their needs, supporting them to ensure independence through:
- Developing their practical skills
- Promoting economic progress
- Maintaining payments
- Improving resilience
- Accessing appropriate services and accommodation
- Signposting complimentary services in the area
- To act in a non-judgmental way
- To log clear and concise case notes on IT systems (Charity Log) ensuring these are up to date for all cases across the team
- To maintain and compile detailed records to ensure accurate statistics can be created as required by the funders
- To maintain confidentiality and understand data protection - GDPR regulations
- To provide quality support to clients in the community, from an office, via telephone, Teams, Zoom or WhatsApp as directed by the client
- To work closely with the Senior Housing Support Worker, liaising with them on complex cases
- To ensure that safeguarding of clients is a key priority and take any necessary internal and external procedures and action
- To form an active part of the Housing Team and attend team meetings, individual meetings, external meetings, supervisions and annual appraisals
- To actively promote the service, attending networking meetings and forums as required
- To perform additional routine administrative and mentoring tasks as directed by the Department Manager when required
- To carry out any additional duties as required by the Department Manager
- To be prepared to undertake regular training as required
- To be willing to travel and work flexibly throughout the charities operational area
- To be prepared to work from any of our operational bases as required
Person Specifications.
Education and Training
- Experience in a similar role or a qualification in a relevant discipline or a willingness to undertake such a qualification
- A well-developed knowledge of IT either by qualification or experience in using databases, Outlook and Microsoft Office
- Admin/organisational skills and experience
- Driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes
Skills and Aptitude
- Experience of working with vulnerable people
- An understanding of the needs of older people and their families
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of data protection – GDPR
- Able to follow routine administration procedures
- Able to work as part of a team
- Experience of assessing and maintaining a caseload
- Full IT Literacy; the role will involve daily use of online databases, Outlook and Microsoft Office
- Willingness to work flexibly between the hours of 9 – 5pm Monday to Friday to meet the needs of the business (some occasional weekend work may be required)
- Willing to undertake any relevant training
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience of engaging with the older people
- An understanding of the housing related difficulties older people are facing
- Experience of the benefits system and the completion of benefit applications online and on paper
