Job description
I am working with an independent boarding & day school for girls and boys aged 1-18. This School operates the highly successful ‘diamond model’, where students are educated in co-educational classes from ages 1 to 11 and in Sixth Form. However, from ages 11 to 16 they are taught in single-sex lessons.
They are looking for 4 x Matron/Houseparents to join them from September 2023 in newly created positions. The role of the Houseparent is considered one of the most important roles within the school and the HP is expected to understand and be prepared to commit to the Catholic Ethos of the school (you do not need to be Catholic yourself). The successful candidates will possess patience, empathy and understanding in order to provide the very best care to the boarders.
There are two positions in the Year 3-11 boarding houses (1x girls, 1x boys) and two positions in the 6thform houses (1x girls and 1x boys).
The role:
- to assist the HoB and AHoB in ensuring that the House has an outstanding character and quality of pastoral care and that all members of the HOuse team support this vision.
- to assist the Hob and AHoB in ensuring that the house exceeds the National Minimum Standards for Boarding (NMS)
- to assist the HoB and the AHoB in raising the profile of boarding through building a House idenity within the wider school community, finding ways to recruit and retain boarders.
- to support the Catholic ethos of the School and be a visible presence at the weekly Sunday Mass, as well as other School/Tutor Group events as required
- to assist the HoB and AHoB in establishing a community spirit and family atmosphere within the House, based on care and understanding
- to ensure a smooth transition for new students
- to foster an inclusive environment with good integration between students of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
- to ensure boarders have a consistently high standard of dress and that there is compliance with uniform expectations
- to be available for boarders, supporting their routines
- to make regular inspections of the rooms
- to be familiar with the schools policies and procedures on Safeguarding & Child Protection and regulatory Guidelines
- to maintain excellent communication with the parents
- to ensure all paperwork is completed inline with the NMS

Salary: £26,000-£28,000 GPA
Hours: 40 hours per week comprised of: 3 week days and Saturdays 13:00-22:00pm & Sundays 10am until noon and 17:00-19:00
