Job description

One of Brighton and Hove’s most highly regarded hair salons is looking for a Housekeeper to assist in maintaining the highest salon standards whilst supporting the daily running of this very busy salon.

North Laine Hair Company was established in 2007 and had grown over this time to a team of 20.
We aim to offer the highest standards of customer service which includes ensuring the salon always looks clean & tidy, with a well run laundry and clean crockery for our guests.

This is a very busy salon and so requires an efficient, effective housekeeper to deliver a high standard of work. It is essential that our guests feel at home in a clean and welcoming environment.

You will be responsible for carrying out all cleaning duties including client areas and salon team areas. You will make sure that daily deep cleaning tasks are carried out to a high standard. It’s important that you respect the needs of the clients. You’ll also need to re-stock cleaning supplies and backwash shampoo bar as required.

You may or may not have worked in a hair salon before but it is essential to us that you are a positive, proactive person with a strong attention to detail and that you take real pride in ensuring a clean and welcoming environment for our clients.

You will be able to use cleaning chemicals, disposables and equipment safely and as per our training and able to effectively report any equipment breakdowns or repairs.

You will have a good knowledge of products/equipment on site, ensuring efficient use of chemicals and disposables to reduce waste, ensuring all equipment/chemicals are stored safely and fit for purpose and in good working order.

Specific roles include:

  • Running the laundry, cleaning towels and gowns to ensure supplies well stocked
  • Effective use of crockery washer/dishwasher to keep clean crockery well stocked
  • Cleaning styling stations once a service has finished
  • Keeping the salon floors swept clean from hair
  • Cleaning mirrors throughout the day
  • Cleaning basin areas throughout the day
  • Cleaning of client and staff toilets
  • Cleaning and tidying kitchen and colour preparation area
  • Cleaning salon tools/equipment in particular washing colour bowls & brushes
  • Deep cleaning client area to a very high level
  • Cleaning team areas
  • Emptying bins (general waste and recycling) and taking rubbish to external bins

  • Understand the behaviours required to successfully work in a luxury customer service environment and be able to consistently demonstrate them in the role
  • Be able to clean to a very high standard
  • Able to work on own initiative and prioritise most important tasks
  • Require minimal supervision
  • Be a great team member & be calm under pressure
  • Have attention to detail & take great pride in a well run salon that is clean & tidy
  • Have good working practises to work safely and effectively and use the appropriate PPE when using chemicals
  • High standard of personal hygiene and appearance
  • Be hard working and have a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Be able to communicate and engage effectively with our clients and team members, good interpersonal and working relationship skills are essential
  • Be considerate & kind
  • To be flexible to work additional hours in order to cover holiday and sickness within the team

Conditions:

  • Part time position working 5 days a week from Monday to Friday, ideally 26 hours per week but we can have a degree of flexibility on working hours
  • 28 days paid annual leave

Hours of work:

Monday: 12pm – 6pm (1 hour break)
Tuesday: 9am – 3pm (1 hour break)
Wednesday: 1pm – 8pm (1 hour break)
Thursday: 12pm – 6pm (1 hour break)
Friday: 12pm – 6pm (1 hour break)
