JOB DESCRIPTION – HOUSEKEEPER
POST: Housekeeper to cover sickness and holidays
REPORTS TO: PERSON IN CHARGE
ACCOUNTABLE TO: MANAGER
AIM: Participate as a member of a team in maintaining and ensuring
high standards of Cleanliness and Tidiness is maintained at all times.
JOB SUMMARY
General Duties
- Carry out schedule of cleaning/housekeeping of their allocated area when on duty.
- Preparing and serving breakfasts to residents in their rooms or lounges, collecting trays and clearing tables and washing up.
- All aspects of cleaning which will involve damp dusting, high dusting,
suction cleaning, emptying bins, polishing.
- Replenishment of supplies of towels, toilet rolls, soap etc and the correct
disposal of rubbish.
- The use of vacuum equipment for carpet cleaning etc.
Cleaning is to be carried out in the following areas:
Bedrooms Sinks Laundry room
Corridors etc. Skirting Lounges
Toilets Offices Coffee Lounge
Bathrooms Behind wardrobes Multi Purpose Lounge
Sluice Carpets Tops of Wardrobes
Front entrance Stairs Back entrance
- Removal of dead flowers and watering of plants.
- Secure storage of cleaning materials and equipment.
- Changing curtains i.e. removal and re-hanging window curtains.
- Ad-hoc maintenance of curtains i.e. replacing hooks etc.
- Cover other staff (colleagues) duties when sick or on annual leave.
- Record in daily work schedules
- Ensure vacuum cleaner in good order – change bags, clean tubes, maintain clean head.
- Report sighting of pests i.e. insects, mice etc.
- Ensure allocated areas are checked for any health and safety hazards and any deficits in equipment or fabric in the home e.g. breakages, fused light bulbs etc are reported immediately to person in charge.
- Record in maintenance book any minor repairs.
- To ensure the Home is cleaned to acceptable standard.
- To comply with St Michaels directive on fire regulations.
- Adhere generally to current Health and Safety Regulations:
Using correct protective clothing as appropriate and ensuring a safe system of work at all times – e.g. use cones to cordon off wet floors at all entrances, awareness of COSHH,
- To maintain a high level of personal hygiene.
- In conjunction with other members of staff, ensure that good communication channels between residents, relatives and visitors are maintained.
- Attend mandatory training as appropriate to role.
- Attend staff meetings as required.
Maintain an awareness of the appropriate policies and procedures and
ensure that such policies and procedures are adhered to.
- To carry out duties in such a way as to ensure the economical and safe use
of resources and equipment.
To assist in the orientation of new housekeepers
To perform other duties not listed, form time to time as directed.
To maintain and promote the ethos of the home.

Any information relating to residents acquired in the course of duty must be treated in the strictest confidence and discussed only with Manager/Person in Charge.

Job Type: Zero hours contract
Salary: £11.01 per hour
Work Location: In person
