We are looking for another House Manager to join the Front of House team following the recent reopening of the Swan Theatre. Assisting the Theatre Manager, the House Managers are responsible for the delivery of efficient and safe day-to-day operations across the public buildings. You will ensure that our audiences are consistently placed at the heart of the organisation by delivering a world class visitor experience for all. Joining a friendly, experienced, and established team of House Managers, you will have shared responsibility for leading, motivating and developing the team of Front of House Assistants in an ever-changing and fast-paced front-facing environment. As the Duty Manager for performances and events in the RSC theatres and other venues, you will confidently lead in an emergency.

As a House Manager you will report to the Theatre Manager where some of the main activities and responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring that the RSC values and purpose underpin every aspect of the visitor experience offer, by leading the team who host all public activity and welcome all visitors.
  • Assist the Theatre Manager in the development and improvement of Front of House procedures and systems to ensure the public areas are safe and secure at all times.
  • Working collaboratively with the other House Managers, jointly manage, motivate, and inspire the Front of House Assistants ensuring the wellbeing of the team.
  • Support all RSC productions by liaising with Stage Management, Producers and Production Managers attend production meetings and rehearsals with a view to updating department information and communicating this on to wider colleagues.
  • Collaborate with other RSC departments to support their work activities and projects.
  • Playing an active role in the promotion of the RSC's Equity, Diversity, Justice, and Inclusion Plan, ensuring this is at the heart of all work carried out.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous duty management experience in an Arts or Visitor attraction setting with a minimum capacity of 500
  • Have strong line-management experience within a customer care environment at a managerial level
  • Bring infectious and inspirational enthusiasm, coupled with a positive and adaptable attitude and the ability to work under frequently changing conditions.
  • Be a customer focused individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Have a pragmatic and proactive approach and the confidence to deal with a variety of scenarios and potentially difficult situations.
  • Be required to be alert to and provide an agile response in an emergency.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Stratford-upon-Avon. You will be working 40 hours per week, our core operational hours are around performances, which are in the evenings and at weekends. You will be required to provide good availability at these times and a willingness to work differing and/or extra shifts. You will Duty Manager three/four shifts per week. Occasional remote working is possible on admin days. You will need to be comfortable working in a busy, lively office environment.
