Job description
We are recruiting for a full-time Homeless Project Assistant to join the team at Tayfen House in Bury St Edmunds.
Tayfen House is a hostel in Bury St Edmunds for those at risk of homelessness and rough sleeping. We provide person-centred support to homeless individuals living in the hostel as well as properties in the community with the aim to support residents on their journey to settled accommodation. The hostel is staffed 24 hours a day to ensure the safety of residents and provide the necessary support for the residents. The role of Locum Project Assistant is essential to achieving this service.
Training: We fully invest in the training and further development of any new and existing employees putting them through their:
- First aid
- Fire marshal
- And any ad hoc training such as conflict management, lone working, drug and alcohol etc.
Purpose of the role:
This role is to ensure the safety and security of the Project, colleagues, visitors and residents within the Tayfen service. You will assist the Team and Support Workers to deliver support to residents and administration to help residents towards independent living. You will work closely with Support Workers to respond appropriately to resident’s day to day needs and manage the needs of the 24-hour hostel building.
Requirements
Outline of key responsibilities:
- Ensuring the rules of the hostel are adhered to by residents and when they fail to do so highlighting this with the Management and Support Team for appropriate action.
- Assisting the Management team and Support Workers to help develop residents social and life skills and support them towards independent living
- To monitor and manage through relevant systems any stored or stock items as required
- To contribute to the team process of new referrals and completing sign-ups with new residents and all administration tasks required
- In partnership with the Support Team liaising with internal and external housing and drug and alcohol support agencies on behalf of residents
- Administrative duties updating the system to ensure all details relating to a resident’s application, licence, support plans, statistical monitoring and rent records are updated regularly
- Effectively communicate the shift handover to the team to ensure the hostel runs smoothly
Person criteria:
About you…
We are looking for passionate and caring team members with the desire to work with individuals to progress their independent living skills. Experience of working with the homeless is not essential but an awareness of the issues they may face along with strong listening skills and the ability to confidently self-manage is desirable.
