As we continue our exciting expansion and regeneration of the Pier, we're looking for a Commercial Manager to join our senior leadership team.

About the Role

Commercial Manager
Location: Clacton Pier, 1 North Sea, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex, CO15 1QX.
Hours: Working 5 days out of 7 including regular weekend and evening work on a shift basis
Salary: £35,000-£38,000 per annum

A key part of the Pier’s Senior Leadership Team, the Commercial Manager will support the Operations Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operation. An experienced food and beverage manager, they will be directly responsible for the performance of our catering outlets, kiosks and other commercial operations including adventure golf and children’s soft play. The Commercial Manager will deputise for the Operations Manager and General Manager and will take overall responsibility for the running of all departments in their absence on a shift basis.

The success of this role is measured by receiving excellent results in regular internal and external food safety audits, hitting financial KPIs, guest satisfaction and staff engagement targets. This role holds responsibility for the daily operations of the food and beverage department, focusing on motivating and driving staff to deliver excellent customer service.

We are looking for someone who is experienced in the tourism/ hospitality industry and is looking to grow their career. The ideal candidate will have a high attention to detail and be driven by delivering the best product to our guests through an engaged and highly motivated team environment. You will have over 3 years’ experience in the customer service industry, positioned in a fast-paced environment, and have a focus on guest satisfaction and meeting financial targets, with a sound knowledge and passion for food safety.

The successful candidate will have experience in coaching others and will be able to deliver constructive feedback to employees of varying ages and abilities. You will be proactive in engaging staff to deliver excellent customer service during every encounter and demonstrated experience in guest recovery situations.

To excel in this role, you will be able to adopt a strategic focus to continually improve and develop the department whether through food quality and safety, cost control or customer satisfaction.

This person will have a keen eye for detail and make sure high standards are maintained across the operation. They will be passionate about guest experience and dream up and implement new and creative ways to help their team ensure guests enjoy a safe, hospitable, and memorable experience at No.1 North Sea.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day to day running of operational departments ensuring high standards are maintained with excellent levels of customer service.
  • Pay particular focus to the delivery of food and beverage operations at the pier and strive to improve consistency across all outlets.
  • Lead, manage, motivate and inspire all departments and staff members.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and five-star customer service ethos across the team and champion guest satisfaction.
  • Work with departmental managers to help improve efficiency, service and revenue.
  • Ensure departments are operating in an efficient manner and proper service is offered at all times.
  • Manage staffing levels and monitor costs and rotas with departmental managers.
  • Aid and influence policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all opening and closing procedures are always adhered to and work to develop existing procedure further to improve overall standards.
  • Identify and correct all potential safety hazards and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain communication with staff by keeping them informed of all company activities.

About You

  • A minimum of three years of high-volume food and beverage
  • Experience in budget preparation and control.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays to support pier operations.
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to execute multiple tasks are required.
  • Must be self-motivated and have proven their ability to take initiative.
  • Demonstrated history of supporting colleagues and staff, leadership, problem solving, and supervisory skills are required.
  • Must have exceptional leadership skills and be able to confidently assist, effectively manage and coach a team of motivated and experienced managers, team leaders and frontline staff.
  • Ability to manage budgets and control operating expenses, and staff numbers is required.
  • Excellent written and communication skills with the ability to interface with personnel at all levels.
  • Requires a commitment to excellence in customer service.
  • Service led with a passion for providing exceptional guest experience.
  • Level 3 Food Safety certificate advantageous.
