The Role
We are looking for supervisors to join our team in Penbryn to work in the Food hall as well as other areas out of term time. You will be working 5 out of 7 days, so the position does include some evening and weekend work as standard.
A Hospitality Supervisor is responsible for helping the department to achieve its day to day operational objectives within the team. These objectives as set out in our departmental Aims and Objectives are based around customer care, high standards of service and compliance to legislative requirements.
All staff are equally important in helping the department achieve its aims and objectives. As such the Senior Hospitality Assistant are the key level in assisting the staff and management alike in the success of the department. Senior Hospitality Assistants are required to work alongside, mentor and help the development of the staff and service in all of our outlets and across all campus’.
A Senior Hospitality Assistant will have a main place of work but will be asked to work in any of the Hospitality outlets, that include (but are not exclusive to) TaMed Da, IBERbach, Student Union building, and conferences.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Principal duties
- To work as directed by their line manager in the service delivery of the Hospitality department to our customers.
- To be responsible for supervising the staff in their area to ensure service delivery and the smooth running of their allocated area.
- To ensure that all staff in their area work in a manner that complies with all Health and Safety, Food Safety and other legal requirements are adhered to as set out by the University policies and procedures.
- To work alongside the team in their area to deliver excellent customer service.
- To be responsible (as directed) for the setting up and breaking down of their areas, to include (but not exclusive to) cashing up of tills and locking up and securing of the areas.
- The cleaning of their areas, and all equipment utensils in line with hygiene legislation, policies and procedures and food safety policy.
- Ensuring that all counters and food displays are set out and replenished as directed by your line manager in a timely manner.
- The preparation of food and drink as directed by your line manager.
- Serving customers in any of the University catering outlets and areas to the standard as set out by your line manager.
- Taking of cash and operation of epos tills.
- Maintaining adequate stocks in the front of house areas and placing orders as required.
- Assisting in stock takes as requested.
Functions and Responsibilities
These Duties include, but are not exclusive to:-
- To ensure that they work with and assist their team in all aspects of the service delivery required for that area.
- To be an active, flexible and dedicated member of the Hospitality Team.
- To be in the area of work, at the agreed time according to the staff rota.
- To be dressed in the correct uniform as laid out in the uniform policy at all times when on duty.
- To ensure that when you are unable to work, you follow the absence policy of the department. To ensure that all absences of staff from their area are notified to the duty manager at the earliest opportunity.
- To ensure that all tasks given are carried out by you and your team, in an efficient and timely manner.
- To be courteous to all customers and fellow members of staff at all times.
- To ensure that you are knowledgeable of all Food Safety and Health and safety rules and regulations that are applicable to your job role. To ensure you and your team, as set out by the duty manager, follow that such rules and regulations.
- To ensure that you notify your line manager of any training requirements that you or your team, may have.
- All staff are responsible for the safe working environment for the staff and customers. All staff must inform their line manager immediately they are aware of any risk or hazard that could effect themselves or others.
- To ensure that they assist in the University’s Bi Lingual policy.
- To help the department and the University in its environmental and sustainable policies by good working practices.
- To work in all areas of the University and at the times that have been agreed with your line manager.
- To assist management and staff colleagues in their day to day work.
- To ensure that your method of work is not detrimental to other staff or the departments work practices.
- To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.

- Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.
The position is physically demanding therefore it is essential that the successful applicant has an appropriate level of health and fitness. Appointment to this position may be subject to a satisfactory fitness assessment.
Who you are – Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills required
Essential
- Previous Catering Experience
- Well-developed communication skills to receive, understand and convey straight forward information.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Experience of working unsupervised.
- Oral (spoken) Welsh Level A1* and Written Welsh Level A0* or evidence to demonstrate an on-going commitment to learn Welsh to this level.
Desirable
- Full valid UK driving licence, or equivalent right to drive in the UK
- Completion of a Manual Handling course.
- Completion of a Food Hygiene course (with date when completed).
- Previous supervisory experience in a Catering role.
- Oral (spoken) Welsh Level A2* and Written Welsh Level A1*.
