Job Title: Home Helper / Enabler

Normal Working Pattern: flexible, zero hours contract Salary: £10.50/hr

Location: client homes Start Date: ASAP

Responsible to: Services Co-ordinator

Main Purpose of Role: To support clients in Teignmouth, Dawlish and Chudleigh with practical tasks around their home (cleaning, laundry, shopping). Working alongside the client to promote independence, enabling the client to take part in activities that they would not otherwise be able to. With a focus to reconnect with the community and their social life if possible.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Give practical help and support to the client to enable them to maintain their independence.
  • Tidy and clean the house or flat. Usually our clients are home so can direct you on how they would like things done. The cleaning can include bathrooms, kitchens and inside of windows.
  • Make beds and change bed linen. Assist with laundry and ironing.
  • Shop for food and other light items. (escorted and non-escorted)
  • Assist with household quick fixes such as replacing lightbulbs (no DIY skills required)
  • Support with caring for pets, including cleaning litter trays & feeding and some dog walking with or without the client
  • Meal planning, basic food preparation like making a cup of tea and some toast or putting on a microwave dish.
  • Light gardening duties

Enabling

  • Provide companionship and an open ear. Have a cup of tea or chat, reading, playing games, handicrafts
  • Supporting people on medical or other appointments and prescription pick-ups.
  • Accompany clients to local activities and groups
  • Helping to make phone calls e.g. to other agencies, utilities
  • Help opening mail and organising diary and household paperwork
  • Make notes needed to help retain information
  • Time off for carers
  • Work closely with our other services and make referrals where required.
  • We are not carers, and will not administer medication or provide personal care. However, if you become concerned about a client’s welfare, we rely on you to follow the appropriate procedures to arrange further support.

Job Type: Freelance

Salary: £10.50 per hour

Education:

  • GCSE or equivalent (preferred)

Experience:

  • Home care: 1 year (preferred)

Language:

  • English (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Driving Licence (preferred)
