We are currently looking to recruit a Highway Adoption Officer within our Network Management team. This is an excellent opportunity that has arisen to join Rotherham Councils’ nationally recognised award winning Highway Network Management team service.


The Network Management team is part of the Community Safety and Street Scene service, and we are passionate about what we do in the borough. We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team who is looking for a challenge and to develop within this exciting opportunity.


The successful applicant will manage the process of the adoption of new roads within the borough and contribute to the process for associated highway improvements connected with developments. You will have experience in a Highway Engineering discipline and knowledge of the Highways Act 1980, Section 38, and Section 278 agreements.


Having excellent communication and organisational skills, you will work closely with the Councils planning and asset management team and manage a small team to deliver the Highways adoptions service and oversee the management of the Bond Schedule and Supervision fees.


The role will require preparation of documentation for legal, and management sign off in association with construction of new developments along with maintaining development correspondent files. Reporting direct to the Highway Asset and Drainage manager, you will have independence to manage your own workload to meet service plan objectives. You will ensure the maintenance the Councils adoption records and ensure records are captured on the mapping software.


You will be the point of contact for adoption enquiries and provide responses to stakeholders in a timely manner. The post holder will be a professional representative of the Council as we are proud of our borough, and we strive to provide the best for our residents and visitors.


With experience in working within Civil Engineering environment (Highways, Drainage an advantage), this role requires the use of various software suites (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc), and use asset management and mapping software.
