Job title: Partnership Instructor
Location: Community based - living within 30 minutes of Brentwood, Essex. Covering an area with a two-hour radius
Hours: Full time, 35 hours, permanent
Salary: £25,740.00 per annum

What we do

“Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs that change deaf people’s lives through emotional and practical support – because nobody with hearing loss should feel alone.”

  • Provide guidance and training to support partnerships between people with hearing loss and their hearing dog
  • Provide and facilitate community events for people with hearing loss, and hearing dog partners
  • Provide advice and signposting so people can get the help they need

Headline tasks

  • Support hearing dog partners with remote contact, home and workplace visits, and accompanying them to public places
  • Continually assess the training and behaviour standards of hearing dogs and work through training plans with hearing dog partners
  • Work with external contacts such as carers, social workers, workplaces and more to support hearing dog partners
  • Provide community events that bring people together to talk about hearing loss, and support the community of hearing dog partners
  • Through community activity, raise awareness of hearing loss and reach people who our full range of Hearing Link Services can benefit
  • Develop trusting relationships that allow us to learn about people’s needs, and refer them to services that can help
  • Help to resolve access issues for hearing dog’s accompanying their partner to public places

What you will need to succeed

The successful candidate is confident in their dog training and handling ability. They are experienced coaching and encouraging others. They can work with people with a wide range of needs and are solution focused. They can assess risk and have confidence in handling sensitive situations. They can develop professional materials for internal and external use.

Important to note

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. This is in relation to the Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults. Applicants will therefore be required to disclose all convictions (spent and unspent), cautions, warnings and reprimands and any relevant non-conviction information. The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Check under the terms of the Police Act 1997 (Part V).
