Job description
An opportunity has arisen in Histopathology, as part of Derbyshire Pathology, for an Advanced Healthcare Scientist in Histological Dissection. Individuals with an interest in any specialty may apply but the greatest need within the department is within breast and gynaecological pathology specimen dissection.
Derby has been at the forefront of BMS dissection since 2005 and as such, has a long established and successful in house training and competency programme, pioneering extended biomedical scientist dissection and BMS reporting. You would be joining a team of friendly experienced expert and advanced dissectors who have all achieved the DEP in Histological dissection and some attaining the higher ASD qualification.
The department handles approximately 60,000 requests per annum and has recently begun to fully digitise the histology service, with a workforce of 60 laboratory and technical support staff, 15 consultants, and 3 specialty trainees. Histology sits within Derbyshire Pathology, a joint venture formed in 2018 between Royal Derby, Queens Hospital Burton and Chesterfield Royal Infirmary.
