Job description
Applicants are invited for this permanent post based in the Central Specimen Reception Laboratory and providing assistance to the Transfusion, Haematology, Clinical Chemistry departments at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. The successful applicant will provide a supporting role to the professional clinical laboratory service.
The appointee would be expected to carry out under the supervision of qualified laboratory staff a range of routine administrative and laboratory tasks, which do not require the skill and training of a state registered Biomedical Scientist, including the following:
- General clerical duties as required e.g. file and mail laboratory reports, distribution of documents, photocopying, and correspondence filing.
- Prepare materials and clinical specimens for analysis.
- Register patient related information onto the Laboratory Information System or other software or manual systems.
- Perform specific laboratory tests with senior staff available for reference.
- Perform a number of essential laboratory tasks involving, clerical, clinical and domestic duties.
- Deal with reception and telephone enquiries from staff from other departments and external agencies.
- Provide assistance to Healthcare Scientists and work alongside Healthcare Science Support Workers Higher Level for the provision of a laboratory service.
You will require good keyboard skills, the ability to work accurately under pressure and a flexible approach to work. Previous experience working in a healthcare setting is desirable.
Shift pattern will be generally between 08:00 and 20:00 including weekends and public holidays. The shift pattern may vary to meet the needs of the service.
The duties of this post require the successful candidate to complete a Standard Police Act Disclosure Scotland Check.
