An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Cytology Department. We are looking for two enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Science Assistants to work at UHDB based at the Royal Derby Hospital.
The ability to work in a team is crucial as well as being able to work accurately and independently.
The post involves:
- Specimen receipt and processing using automated systems,
- HPV testing,
- Entering patient details and requested tests into the pathology computer system
- Slide filing,
- Laboratory duties
- Handling general telephone enquiries

To assist Biomedical Scientists, HCSA's and consultant staff in the receipt, processing and testing of cytology samples .
Effective communication skills enabling the post-holder to develop and maintain good working relationships with all staff groups.
To perform routine clerical duties in cytology, including data input.
Good keyboard skills are required.
To contribute to the efficient and effective running of the laboratory.
Good organisational skills including the ability to plan, prioritise and re-schedule workloads.
Able to use initiative when dealing with enquiries. This may include passing queries on to senior staff.
Ensure the maintenance of adequate stocks of reagents/consumables in the laboratory.
Preparation of reagents.
Work according to the Standard Operating Procedures.
Suggest and comment on changes to SOP’s and suggest changes to current working practices to ensure a high quality service.
