Duties

  • Conduct research studies to guide the development and evidenced based practice of dry needling (DN) for Physical Therapists, VHA leaders, and policymakers.
  • Identifies new DN research topics and coordinates proposals to study these topics.
  • Supports the submission of research proposals to obtain funding from VA and/or non-VA sources.
  • Collaborates with DN Program Coordinator programming to support staff in data analysis; and writes study results.
  • Reviews requests and identifies potential studies that have the highest priority for economic analysis.
  • Advises study planning; collaborates with other researchers and DN Program Coordinator in the overall study design; formulates hypotheses; identifies cost and outcome data needed for analysis; and assists in the development of study protocol, the design of study forms, the design of methods for extracting data from VA databases, and methods for assigning costs to VA health care.
  • Oversees teams that are focused on data analytics and data management to include supervision of project support staff and programmers.
  • Provides strategic leadership and insights to the Director of Rehabilitation Therapy Services and Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirement: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an education program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED - Copies of Degrees or course listings are not adequate information to meet the Basic Education Requirement. Transcript must show that a degree was awarded.)

- AND-

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, GS-11, in the federal service. The specialized experience for this position is experience conducting analyses and observational data analyses as required by the research studies and data analysis plan; experience using state-of-the-art statistical modeling techniques including multilevel, longitudinal, and repeated measure models; experience in health services research with a demonstrated ability to undertake, coordinate, and analyze results of clinical research projects; and applicant must possess professional-level writing and editorial skills evidenced by having working papers published at academic institutions or recent publications in peer reviewed academic journals. -OR-

Graduate Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an education program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Transcripts Required) -OR-

Combination of Graduate Education and Specialized Experience: an equivalent combination of education above a master's degree with a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences, or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position and specialized experience as described above to meet the total qualification requirements for this position. Physical Requirements: The work is generally sedentary. Most work is completed at a desk using a computer. Some standing, bending, carrying, and walking to other locations within the work facility are necessary. The position may require occasional travel.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
