We have a full-time vacancy for an enthusiastic healthcare assistant to join the team

The unit has 31 dialysis stations where our patients attend with chronic kidney disease requiring dialysis up to 3 times a week. We are situated approximately 1 mile away from the main Derriford site and we are located in Estover. We also have satellite units at Kingsbridge and Saltash. Driving is essentialas the unit is not on the main bus route and you will cover all 3 areas.

You must be prepared to complete additional renal training/competencies.

You will be required to work rotational shifts. The Plymouth Dialysis Unit has the following shift pattern:

EarlyEarly shift: 06:00-14:00

Late shift: 12:00-20:00

Twilight shift: 16:00-00:00

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

  • To assist in the delivery of care, planned and assessed by the Registered Nurses.
  • To carry out care / other duties under indirect supervision
  • To supervise health care assistants, making a contribution to their training and development
  • Support care on a day-to-day basis for all patients in the clinical area under indirect supervision
  • Contribute to resource management.

Nursing Care (under direct supervision)
1. Develop the skills to obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust
2. Under supervision follow individual patient care plans and report any changes immediately to the Registered Nurse/Assistant
3. Participate in basic patient assessment whilst providing personal care and feeding back to the registered nurse to ensure high standards of care, in particular relating to skin integrity and the alertness of the patient
4. Practice safe standards of care to patients following Trust guidelines and policies and be able to concentrate for periods throughout the day with occasional
5. Ensure care is given in accordance with the infection prevention and health and safety policies and
6. Ensure that the patients bed space is clean, tidy, and accessible and that the person has what they need within easy
7. Develop the skills to actively facilitate self-care and independence with
8. Promote health education specific to the clinical area and in line with national and local policies
9. Develop the skills to maintain effective record keeping and communication with patients, relatives, and members of the Multidisciplinary team regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication
10. Ensuring equipment and stores are well maintained, taking appropriate action if the equipment is faulty
