Our Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale are expanding our service to support more people at end of life than ever before. In light of this we are looking for Healthcare Assistants to join our well established, multi-disciplinary team to allow us to care for more patients in our IPU. Due to increased demand for our services, the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth is opening a second ward. To meet capacity we are now looking for a number of Healthcare Assistants to make a difference within our Inpatient Unit based at our fantastic facility, overlooking the sea. This is an exciting time for the hospice as we look to further develop our services and support our patients and their loved ones when they need us most.
- Title: Healthcare Assistant, Hospice
- Salary: £22,383 per annum (Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale, aligned with AFC Band 2)
- Enhancements: 41% x your basic salary per hour paid for Saturdays & weekday night duty (8pm to 6am) / 83% x your basic salary per hour paid for Sundays and Public Bank Holiday
- Hours: Full time 37.5 hours (Nights / Day shift) but part time may be considered
- Contract: Permanent (Rotational on to days, nights and weekends)

Marie Curie provides free specialist support and care for patients with cancer and other life limiting conditions, and their families. We aim to give patients the best possible quality of life, meeting their medical, spiritual and social needs, while also providing their families with the emotional support they need.
Healthcare Assistants at Marie Curie provide holistic, person centred, end of life care to patients and those important to them. You will undertake a broad range of care activities as delegated by a Registered Nurse through a documented plan of care.
To join our dedicated, caring team, you'll need proven, relevant care experience, ideally within a clinical setting. An S/NVQ Level 2/3 qualification or an equivalent certificate/diploma is desirable but not essential if you are willing to work towards it. Most important is an understanding of palliative and end-of-life care – empathy and compassion.
Emotional strength and the ability to work on your own are crucial, though we will of course provide excellent on-going training and support. We expect you to have a talent for forging strong empathetic relationships with all kinds of people, whilst providing palliative care. Due to the nature of the role a flexible approach including the ability to work nights and weekends.

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work within a team.
- Flexible approach to working patterns
- Recent experience in a health/social care setting
- An empathy and understanding of issues encountered by patients with palliative care needs
