Band 3 Healthcare Assistant

An exciting opportunity to join a developing team, caring for patients with pleural disease in an outpatient setting. The successful candidate will need to be an enthusiastic team worker with excellent communication skills. You will be required to be adaptable, have good problem solving skills and computer literacy is mandatory.

The role will involve supporting the pleural nurses, doctors and patients during pleural procedures. You will be required to manage incoming referrals with the support of the pleural nurses, contact patients to arrange appointments and liaise with GP practices and the RCHT bookings teams.

Oncology and/or respiratory experience would be preferred but not mandatory.

NVQ level 3 or equivalent and competency in clinical observations is mandatory.

Helping with telephone enquiries.

You will be required to manage incoming referrals with the support of the pleural nurses, contact patients to arrange appointments and liaise with GP practices and the RCHT bookings teams.

The successful candidate will work as part of the team in the pleural department with nurses and doctors. This may involve working in other departments , the wards and peripheral hospitals.

The team try to cross cover and support each other and good communication is essential.

Mutual support is very important as many of the patients we deal with are very vulnerable or have a limited prognosis.

The post holder will work closely with the existing nursing team. Time will be given for learning as much of the role is very specialist and will be new .

The candidate will be introduced to new IT and software used within the department and similarly with the test equipment. Tests need to be carried out to a high standard and results recorded accurately.

We have a large number of patients in the care of the pleural service and we receive a large number of enquiries each day about this service and the equipment, which they will need to help with.
