Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
Band 2 - Healthcare Assistant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 2- Healthcare Assistant in the Same Day Emergency Care. SDEC offers same day emergency care to patients in a hospital setting. Patients are assessed, diagnosed and treated enabling patients to be discharged and if required return for treatment, diagnostic tests, reviews or referred to a specialty. The SDEC is an integral part of the Emergency Care Pathway
The service SDEC provides to our patients is growing and we are extending the service hours and how we work. We are looking for motivated individuals who have experience working in an acute setting. You will need to be a hard worker, dynamic, organized and able to prioritise workload and willingness to support the unit with any jobs that need completing.
You will be expected to ensure the unit is kept tidy at all times and all areas are kept stocked up. You will be encouraged to under take extended skills and be supported in doing this on the Unit.
The hours of work will be shifts inclusive of
08:00 - 21:00, 11:00 - 00:00, 16:00-00:00
Full time or Part time across a 7 day a week roster.

An ability to learn quickly, be flexible and show initiative are important.
Communication skills are vital as you will be an integral member of a small team and work closely with all grades of staff and medical staff.

Assist in the provision of nursing care under the supervision of a qualified nurse in relation to:
- Assisting to needed- patients to meet their personal hygiene requirements
- Meeting the patient’s nutritional needs
- Take and record vital signs as requested, i.e. temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure, oxygen saturation and Early Working Score (NEWS 2) on observation charts and to report any abnormalities to the qualified nurse.
- The collection of specimens, i.e. stool, urine, mid-stream urine, catheter specimen of urine, sputum and wound swabs.
- Documenting admission details which include next of kin, social situation and details of patient property.
- Assist patients in meeting their continence needs if required, i.e.: taking them to the toilet. Reporting any abnormalities to a registered nurse.
- Recognise the Equality and Diversity of patients, clients, relatives and multi disciplinary groups
- Maintain a clean and tidy environment, including bed areas, store cupboards, sluice, treatment room and equipment used for procedures.
- Undertake the cleaning of ward equipment, according to policy and procedure. Make effective use of the infection control policy.
- Undertake the cleaning of bed areas, suction, oxygen, lockers and prepare for admission, obtaining any essential equipment.
