Job description
DIMENSIONS OF JOB:
Day Surgery has 22 individual Day case patient pods.
We are a team of 15 Nurses and 6 Healthcare Assistants who work closely together to ensure the best patient experience.
Hours of work are between 07-00 and 22-00 Monday to Friday and Saturday 07-00 -19-00 Shifts can be a mix of earlies and lates, we will also consider long days, to cover the service.
There will be an expectation that staff will stay until 22-00 if patient discharge is delayed
To carry out duties in support and under supervision of a registered nurse.
To participate in all aspects of patient care including admission, observations, all personal care including nutritional needs
To ensure high standards of Infection control and prevention are maintained.
Maintain clear and accurate documentation under the supervision of a registered nurse, raising issues of concern with a qualified nurse where appropriate.
KEY TASKS & Responsibilities:
- Know where and how to access all policies and procedures and adhere to them.
- Check and maintain appropriate levels of stock.
- Cover the Reception Desk as required, including the admitting and discharging of patients on Trust Computer systems.
- Undertake a range of clerical and admin duties when required
- Participate in the induction of bank/agency Health Care Assistants and new staff to the unit.
- Ensure adequate supply of equipment, linen and anything else which is required by the nurse in charge of the shift.

All aspects of Surgical Patient Care including Preparing department to receive patients.
Completing Admission of patients under supervision of trained nurses
Carry out observations and escalating any concerns
Taking patients to theatre.
Ensuring patients nutritional needs are met.
Reporting to nurses regarding patient condition
Keeping the ward clean and tidy and well stocked.
Keeping up to date with training
Being punctual and adhering to uniform policy
