Job description

We need cheerful, hands-on people to join our team of Band 2 healthcare assistants who make a real difference to people’s lives at Dorset HealthCare’s community hospitals around the county. We are looking for someone that can work a range of shifts including night shifts

Playing a vital role in caring for our mainly elderly patients, you’ll work under the guidance of a healthcare professional in a supportive team with a range of skills and experience.

You’ll be observant and happy to take the initiative, providing personalised care to meet each patient’s individual needs.

Your day could include a range of tasks like helping patients eat, wash and move around, changing bedding, helping run clinics, monitoring patients’ conditions and replenishing stock.

You’ll have lots of opportunities to learn on the job and to access training, with the potential to progress to a range of other NHS roles.

Previous experience of volunteering or working within a health or care setting would be helpful, as would a relevant NVQ 2 / Care Certificate or the willingness to work towards it.

We offer flexible family-friendly working patterns, pastoral support and the chance to be part of a supportive, high performing team of healthcare professional serving local people in one of our picturesque coastal or rural community hospitals in Dorset.

Blandford Hospital are looking for enthusiastic full or part-time Healthcare Assistants to join our friendly team on Tarrant Ward. Tarrant is a 25 bedded ward and we are dedicated to delivering high quality holistic care to our patients.

The role of the Healthcare Assistant does involve dealing with personal care for patients and assisting in their daily activities. The therapy team are also active within the ward to enable proactive rehabilitation of patients.

  • assist registered nursing staff in providing high quality individualised nursing care to a clearly defined group of patients, relatives and carers.
  • assist the multi-disciplinary team to aid patients in gaining independence and mobility in preparation for a safe discharge.
  • participate in providing a range of therapeutic activities for patients
Staff are our top priority and we are a learning organisation who believes in investing in our staff to help them develop personally and professionally to reach their full potential.

At Dorset HealthCare we’re on a mission to empower people to make the most of their lives through our outstanding, joined-up healthcare services. We’re a dynamic, forward-looking Trust, running 12 community hospitals, specialist inpatient facilities and a wide range of integrated community and mental health services for a population of almost 800,000 people.

We do things differently here – it’s one of the reasons the CQC rated us ‘outstanding’ in 2019. It’s also why 95% of patients across our services say they have a good or very good experience of our services and 89% of staff feel they can really make a difference. Whether you’re looking to work with us in one of our bustling market towns, vibrant urban locations, thriving seaside spots, or among the rolling hills of Dorset, there are lots of ways you can make a difference in our communities.

Our 7,000-strong workforce is at the heart of what we do and our success is a testament to our brilliant people. We're all about building a workplace for the future, we believe in equal opportunities and we celebrate diversity. We’re an inclusive workplace, where everyone is welcome, everyone can be authentic, and we are all encouraged to be the best version of ourselves.

Working with us you’ll be part of a strong team, challenge yourself, build a career, and teach us what we don’t know. And you’ll be working towards our vision to be better every day through excellence, compassion and expertise in all we do.
