Job description

We are looking for someone who is motivated, hard working and passionate about working with Young People and Families to join our team at the Darwin Centre.

The post holder will work alongside an experienced Multidisciplinary team with Young People and their families experiencing a wide range of Mental Health difficulties, to provide 24-hour inpatient care.

As part of the team, you will provide the Young People and their families with tools to manage their Mental Health difficulties, helping them to develop plans to manage when they are experiencing Crisis and plans of care which will provide interventions that will make a lasting change across their life.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and clinical skills around Trauma informed care, Children’s Safeguarding, intensive treatment options for a wide range of Mental Health disorders, formulating and managing risk and DBT skills. There will be chances to receive teaching sessions from other specialist CAMHS services such as The Croft Children’s and Family unit and the Phoenix Eating Disorder unit. The three units work closely together and often team members from each unit spend time across each ward.

The unit has places for 14 young people. During a young person’s stay, they will be offered a comprehensive range of assessment and treatments by our multi-disciplinary team composed of psychiatrists, nurses, health care assistants, an occupational therapist, a clinical psychologist, a family therapist, an art therapist, support time recovery workers, a social worker, a dietitian and teaching team.

The healthcare assistant role is integral to the team and consists of maintaining a safe and well kept environment, supporting young people with their activities of daily living, supporting young people and families with trips off the unit and supporting in times of distress.

You may be required to undertake and successfully complete the new national Care Certificate within a 12 weeks’ timeframe if you meet our criteria. You will receive full training and support and The Care Certificate sets out 15 national care standards that must be achieved by all health and social care staff to demonstrate that they have the skills and knowledge needed to provide safe and excellent quality of care. It is a foundation programme which can provide the first steps to career development within the NHS

  • The post holder will provide support and care for service users with mental and physical health needs and to their carers within a multidisciplinary setting.
  • They will undertake assigned tasks under the general supervision of a registered nurse, including assisting in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
  • The post holder will be trained to ensure that issues of equality, diversity and rights are dealt with in accordance with good practice and legislation.
