An exciting opportunity has arisen for Healthcare Assistant Apprentice (x2) to work within County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The post is based at University Hospital North Durham Maternity Unit.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Healthcare Assistant Apprentice (x2) to work within County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. The post is to provide healthcare support to a dedicated team in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures whilst studying a Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3 Apprenticeship. The post is based at University Hospital North Durham Maternity Unit. Formal training sessions will be part of the Apprenticeship programme delivered in partnership with New College Durham. Training will take place at New College Durham or at one of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust premises. There is the possibility for progression to the permanent post of Health Care Assistant within CDDFT

Due to the nature of the training role, applicants must be over 18 years old to apply.

This opporutnity is an apprenticeship and in order to access an apprenticeship applicants must be a UK Resident. A non-UK national is eligible to apply if they have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands for at least the previous 3 years on the first day of their apprenticeship and have permission from the UK government to live in the UK

Main duties of the job

To assist in welcoming patients to clinical areas and recording base line observations

To provide assistance during clinical and nursing procedures, including theatres

To work with other health care staff

To liaise with midwifery staff and the multidisciplinary teams

To develop skills

To ensure the patient areas are kept clean, tidy and stocked

To support the relatives of patients.

To ensure that the ward environment maintains a warm and welcoming environment

To prepare and assist with a variety of tests

To assist patients meeting their personal care needs and give appropriate assistant

To attend all Trust mandatory and statutory training programmes

To maintain professional standards with reference to appearance, manner and punctuality

To attend college lead workshops and complete all academic work in relation to apprenticeship

To carry out any other reasonable duties, as required

Training to be provided

The apprenticeship entails learning the role of a healthcare assistant, their duties and responsibilites whilst caring for patients. You will be responsible for providing excellent patient care whilst working as part of an effective team.

Things to consider

You must be able to produce ALL certificates stated essential in the person specification or you will not be able to complete pre-employment checks.
One day a week to be spent at New College Durham for training.
