Our Health, Safety and Environment Advisor will;
- Promote a positive health, safety and environmental (HSE) culture, supporting and enabling colleagues to work safely, work sustainably and be their best.
- Provide advice and guidance in a professional, efficient, value adding way to enable the business and colleagues to manage and deliver operations safely, with wellbeing in mind and in support of environmental impact reductions.
- Monitor compliance and review HSE performance.
Primary Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Support delivery of the ongoing health, wellbeing, safety, and environmental programme of work
- Support the ongoing review, development and update of the HS&E management system, raise awareness of it and coach leaders, across the business, in it’s use and implementation.
- Provision of high-quality, unbiased and proactive advice and guidance on HSE matters to improve culture and influence leaders to embed safe behaviours.
- Develop content for and support in engagement activities to inspire and drive the HSE and wellbeing agenda across the business including policy and guidance updates, awareness events / focussed improvement campaigns etc.
- Support the development and maintenance of HSE competence through implementation and delivery of internal training and guidance tools.
- Undertake assurance assessments (inspections and audits) independently and in conjunction with leaders and Internal Audit team to monitor HSE related compliance.
- Have a clear understanding of ISO45001 and ISO14001 and support external assurance assessments and reviews such as ISO45001 audits, EcoVadis, ESOS and corporate customer assessments.
- Act as a coach to managers to improve incident reporting and investigation across the business, carry out investigations when necessary and manage the associated data and insights.
- Support the interface with external regulators, including regular reporting requirements.
- Conduct, and support leaders to conduct, risk assessments including workplace, fire, task based and individual risk assessments.
- Support the development of Safe Systems of work and standard operating procedures.
- Coordinate risk assessments of Home Workers, Display Screen Users, Lone Workers, Night Shift workers, New and Expecting mothers etc and support coordination of health surveillance as required.
- Take a proactive role in health, safety and environment forums, committees and working groups.
- Support, as required, the management of Employers’ Liability claims including supporting investigation process and insurance review.
- Maintain the Health, Safety and Environment legal register and provide updates on changes to relevant regulation, legislation and guidance.
- Coordinate HSE KPI data including provision of monthly summary of data and insights including ensuring Group reporting standards are met and coordinate the opportunity to learn and share good and bad practices.
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- 2-3 years proven experience in a similar role (or be able to demonstrate transferable skills).
- Formal Health and Safety Qualifications (i.e. NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent and IOSH Technician member or equivalent)
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the health and safety legislation, Approved Codes Of Practice etc
- Competent to complete risk assessments
- Hold (or willing to work towards) First Aid certificate, Fire Marshal Certificates etc.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft office. and be able to pick up new IT systems quickly.
- Full UK Drivers licence.
- Good communication and engagement skills, great with people and able to build relationships whilst maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professionalism.
- Must be trustworthy, confident, able to challenge appropriately and eager to learn.
- Flexible and accommodating of business requirements, working in different locations as required which may include overnight stays.
- Able to work unsupervised and pay attention to detail.

HSE Manager, People leaders/manager across the business with the majority being in our fitting, supply chain operations and facilitates management teams.
