Arriva UK Bus are currently recruiting for a Health, Safety and Environment Manager, to join UKB Health, Safety, Environment and Risk team. The main purpose of the role will be to work within the UK Bus Safety team providing support to the wider business through the maintenance of subject matter expertise, independent oversight and assisting in implementing and maintaining Arriva’s HSE policies and procedures. This will involve, but not be limited to, hazard identification and control, incident/injury prevention, hazardous material/waste management, fire safety and environmental compliance. You will be expected to provide hands on support to the business geared towards reducing employee incidents whilst driving a continual improvement to the overall safety culture of the business.

This role is full time, permanent based in Luton (travelling to different locations required).

Responsibilities

Contribute to the development of UK Bus Health, Safety and Environment policy and standards in line with any legal statutory or other compliance.

Support the delivery of strategic plans to drive a culture of behavioural safety across a range of depots.

Work closely with all levels in employee levels in depot including but not limited to; Managers, Supervisors, Engineers, Drivers and safety representatives to identify safety issues and provide guidance and formulate improvement plans that are driven through until completion.

Act as a focal point for occupational health and safety information and ensure that the company systems for health and safety are communicated effectively to all relevant persons thus providing subject matter expertise to the business. (Locally and nationally where required)

Manage safety campaigns aligned with the prevailing trends that are impacting the business

To mitigate the financial impact of health and safety incidents, by working with depot management and Legal and Claims (Transcare) teams to understand lessons learned to further develop local safety practices.

Provide independent oversight through over checking and auditing of the business both locally and nationally, where required.

To assist local management with incident investigations (inc. RIDDOR reporting) root cause analysis as and when required.

To deliver bespoke training, where necessary to support the UK Bus Health, Safety and Environment policy and standards.

Work on, where required, national projects to deliver improved processes or better business performance through the introduction of new technologies/ new ways of working ensuring smooth and aligned implementation across the business.

Liaise with the HSER Data team to ensure that all reporting is accurate and aligned to the businesses needs

Utilise the BI provided by the Data team to inform the business on Safety performance, trends and plan/actions to reduce/mitigate impact.

To be an ambassador for the UKB Health and Safety agenda and to collaborate with other safety team members on projects and workstreams as and when required.

To work to any reasonable requests as directed by the Head of HSER.

About you

They will possess excellent communication skills including the use of Microsoft applications i.e. MS Teams, Forms.

Recent proven experience of working in a health and safety role at a similar level and bringing about culture change within an organisation

A comprehensive knowledge of current health and safety legislation, management and standards and the ability to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of health, safety, risk and compliance

Experience of developing, implementing and maintaining organisational health and safety management undertaking risk assessments, implementing monitoring systems, incident investigation, auditing and reviewing performance

Traveling will be required - Valid UK Driving Licence required.

Due to the business operating hours, some out of out of hours working / activities may be required
