Job description
The Health & Safety Manager will lead the strategic direction of the Regional Delivery Programme over the course of the framework in the south west. They will be responsible for managing and monitoring performance and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and Client/GT Standards, expectations, processes and procedures. They will also coach and develop a small team of H&S advisors and support functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise sites on Project-specific health, safety and environment issues
- Actively identify areas for improvement and contribute to plans aimed at reducing the occurrence of incidents
- Ensure that site teams are proactive, up to date and comply with current health, safety and environmental legislation, best practice and Company and client standards
- Undertake monitoring of the health, safety and the environment processes
- To provide training in health and safety matters and promote a HSE culture which is consistent with Galliford Try’s Challenging Beliefs and Affecting Behaviours programme
- Allocate work to Safety Advisors and monitor their performance
- Develop self and subordinates
- Ensure safety involvement pre contract start
- Vetting of contractors pre-commencement of work to establish competence
- To monitor health, safety and environmental performance and compile the necessary HSE reports to project management and client teams monthly and attends project HSE meetings as required.
- Support the projects in the delivery of H&S commitments.
- Ensure all incidents are reported to both Galliford Try’s and the clients incidents databases and closed out within the appropriate timescales.
- Establish good relationships and effective communication with Client H&S counterparts and work with peer organisations in developing best practice for the region.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Relevant Health & Safety Qualifications i.e. NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate as a minimum
- Relevant experience in the construction industry with knowledge in major projects and/or highways, particularly working on the strategic road network in a management position is ideal
- Main contracting background with experience in a site based role
- Ability to manage and work as part of a team
- Ability to manage own workload to meet the project requirements
- Hold a full driving license
