Do you have the passion to support children’s nursing and families with children with additional needs?
We are seeking motivated, forwarding thinking and dynamic individual, looking for a new challenge, to join the Special School Nursing team. The team sits under the wider umbrella of the Specialist Children’s Community Nursing Team and provides excellent quality nursing care for children with Complex Needs attending Special Schools in Waltham Forest.
The Specialist Children’s Community Nursing team comprises of three teams – Child Development Nursing, Special School Nursing, and the Children’s Community Nursing team. The three teams work closely together to provide excellent care and excellent outcomes for the children of Waltham Forest. We have close links with the wider MDT – Physio, SALT, OT as well as local authority and social services. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to assist the nursing team in providing clinical care to children with special educational needs across Waltham Forest. This could be in their homes or at Wood Street, but will be mainly in Special School settings. The aim of the service is to provide an excellent standard of Nursing care to enable children to achieve their best possible outcomes.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement – London
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,108 and a maximum payment of £5,177 per annum pro rata).
The post holder will join the existing Special School Nursing Team and assist in carrying out a range of clinical activities. They will utilize a range of skills and experience gained from previous clinical practice to provide holistic care and assessments for children who have complex needs. Training can be provided for the right candidate. The postholder will possess excellent time management skills, good IT skills and be able to carry out tasks delegated to them and able to work autonomously. Excellent communication skills are essential as well as the willingness and ability to support children with complex needs and their families. The ability to work as an effective team member across the Specialist Children’s Nursing Teams as well as the wider Multidisciplinary Team and external agencies is essential.
