Job description
We are looking for Band 3 Health Care Assistants for the Emergency Department to work in our new Emergency department.
We have undergone a major change in the provision of Emergency and Urgent Care for Leicester and Leicestershire. The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is one of the largest in England and has one of the busiest Emergency Departments in the country and we opened the new £48 million Emergency Department in April 2017.
We have opportunities in our Emergency Department for Band 3 HCA's for development in Emergency care, which includes an excellent education programme to provide on-going development and support.
We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, confident and self-motivated Health Care Assistants who possess excellent communication skills and enjoy a challenge.
You will join a forward thinking multi-disciplinary team dedicated to delivering high standards of care in a challenging environment. Applicants must enjoy a fast pace acute environment as well as having a keen interest in caring in these acute settings.
The role involves taking a patient’s blood for testing, completing ECG’s, and cannulation for patients. You will be allocated to work in all areas of the Emergency Department and MIAMI.
To apply you must have competencies in venepuncture, ECG taking and cannulation.
The role will involve working long days, weekends and night shifts.
Provide clinical and non-clinical support to the multi-professional team under the direction of an appropriate registered health care professional.
Deliver direct and indirect care as delegated under the direction and supervision of an appropriate registered health care professional.
Support the delivery of effective health care to patients/service users by undertaking duties as identified by the multi- professional team.
Undertake specified and unsupervised aspects of care and therapeutic intervention as delegated by the registered health care professional within an agreed protocol, sphere of responsibility and after completing appropriate competency- based training agreed by the Trust.

About the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust: (leicestershospitals.nhs.uk)
- Assist with essential nursing care.
- Perform vital sign observations, accurately document and report back to a registered nurse / health professional.
- Perform Electrocardiograph (ECG) tracings - ensuring it is checked by doctor or cardiac nurse specialist.
- Insert cannula and flush with normal saline after checking the normal saline with a registered practitioner.
- Obtain blood samples, label appropriately and send to labs.
- Escort / transfer patients to other areas of the hospital as appropriate
